  Yep. This is barely a change for China, just an amplification of their existing power over their people. It has a much larger impact in the US and other Western countries where prior to now the government hasn’t had nearly as strong of a grip on public discourse. Not good in any case though.

  You haven’t been paying attention to late stage capitalism so far. The landlords simply pull enough housing off the market that the prices for the remainders continue to rise. They’ll let entire buildings rot if it ensures the prices for other buildings remain high.

  There’s a special kind of evil irony in the fact Russia is bombing schools in Ukraine, using the money that should’ve went to its own schools to stop them from falling apart as though they’re being bombed in slow motion.
