Sonic has you going left, up, down, and all around. Sometimes you hit dead ends. Sometimes you don’t even have much control over where you go (such as in the casino levels). It was frustrating.

If the goal of Metroid was to get to the right most side of the map as fast as possible, I wouldn’t have liked it if it had the same map.
