any word can sound like an insult if you say it with the right tone, I think? Isn’t there a song somewhere on YT about words that aren’t technically slurs that makes that point?

Oh, definitely! I’m half European and half Arabian and living in Europe. Back in my teenage days, when having a huge conflict at school. I would shout “ibn” which just means “son”. Shout it in the right tone when angry and people will think it is some huge insult.
