        Yes and the US was already building bases and infrastructure to support them. And as for economic dependency…

        While the US is eyeing the island for its rare earth minerals upon closer examination it’s not exactly THAT valuable regardless who is owning the mines and revenue. Like Greenland could put together a whole common ownership with revenue staying with the people of Greenland and still the outcome isn’t “we are now wealthy.”
