Nice, but I really hope they eventually address the issue of plastic production in the first place.

That would be the best idea to reduce the issue and there is a lot that could be cut out. For example looking at recent shopping the potatoes could have come in a hessian bag instead of plastic (or loose and paper bagged in the shop for small amounts) and the lettuce really did not need to be in its own plastic bag. Soft plastic is harder to replace though for some things (e.g. cheese) so having a way to recycle what will be used is good.

I bought some potatoes and other vegetables at a supermarket today. I didn’t use any kind of bag for any of them. I put them straight from the shelf into the shopping basket, then from the shopping basket into my backpack with everything else. I reckon that’s a good way to do it.

We have a bunch of reusable lightweight fabric bags, they're great for veggie shopping. Actually more convenient than the single use plastic, because they're easy to open and close, and you can hold a bunch of them by the drawstrings.

100% biodegradable plastics exist, my bin bags are made of them
