I still remember a trip I took with my parents to Vancouver and Seattle. We are from Brazil.
The difference was night and day, especially the infrastructure, landscape, and the appearance of the people who worked there. Seattle felt much more somber and gray.
The only ones who seemed overtly happy were the waitresses, but since jobs in the U.S. depend on tips, it felt more like forced role-play compared to the more down-to-earth Canadian customer service.

literally, I let my VISA expire and it was hard because I live on the frontier so I’ll miss out on a lot of things but it is not worth it last time I needed to cross the border I was detained for an extra hour (not counting the queue) just because I didn’t cross during the pandemic
