idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 week agoYou know your dad better than I do, but the vast majority of parents don’t want to hear those. It would hurt my father quite a bit emotionally to have to hear about the times that he wasn’t there to protect me (he was an incredibly present father, nothing to do with being a deadbeat).

the topic was “wow, I’ve been really lucky”. It’s okay, here were are and he’s 85 with Alzheimers and I’m almost 50. So we made it. Overall, though, if I had a complaint about him, it’s that he wasn’t very aware or engaged in my life from day to day.
