Not marinara, just pureed tomato. OP said it was dumb to remove a tomato, yet use ketchup, so the comparison is raw tomato vs. ketchup. Tomato puree is the same as raw tomato, marinara is not.
Marinara on a burger, especially one seasoned like a meatball, is delicious. Add a slice of mozzarella, and you have a Cheeseburger Marinara. Just a different configuration of a Meatball Sub (one of my favorites). Now I know what we’re having for dinner, with fries.
