In NSW (state of Australia), there is no constitutional right to protest, but there is a common law right to peaceful assembly.

However, there is a requirement to submit an application to the Police 7 days ahead. The Police may choose to approve or deny this, which basically says “We think this gathering/protest/whatever will be peaceful, and so will not charge people with crimes such as obstruction etc when they walk down the road”.So, they can also direct that the protest can march here, but not there, you may gather there, but not here, you may only have this many people in this area, you may only gather during these times etc.

Of course, you are free to ignore these directions, but you may be arrested, or i don’t know, maybe strip searched, even if you are a child
