How about we ban all the “royalty” from all these estates (and confiscate their wealth while we’re on it) and use them for housing poor and homeless (and their wealth to finance this)? That seems less prone to scandals.

As I thought… “the land was awarded to a Norman knight, Robert Fitz-Corbun after the Norman Conquest.” So the government can “steal” it and sell it to a non profit, this way people like you should be ok with it.
