shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 2 months agoThere are Americans that believe the US is one of the oldest countries in the world ie. if you start counting from when nation-states became a thing. Its a super hilarious question from an Indian, Chinese or African perspective.

We get called the oldest democracy currently in existence. But that streak appears to have ended.

Interesting I only vaguely understood where San Marino was, a state city in Italy, probably a tax haven’t for rich Italian businessmen, like Monaco.
But now I know that that they have had a constitutional republic since AD301.
Somehow they’re still only rated 29th in human development hand the rest of Italy. The US is still somehow 17th, tied with Liechtenstein and New Zealand. And one behind Canada.
