if you’re already walking on eggshells, it’s not a good sign imo.
just ask him. if you end up dating for a longer time, at some point you will have to ask for clarification about something anyways. if that’s awkward to him, it would be a red flag in my book. communication is the #1 most important thing in any relationship, and if he can’t deal with you making sure you understand him correctly, I don’t think he would be able to have a healthy relationship anyways.
