Comment on Will Lemmy instances be forced to verify users' ~~ages~~ identities?
hisao@ani.social 1 week agoThis is interesting, I did a bit of research and it seems, none of this is legally enforceable unless the company has EU presence. Basically EU just saying “we will do everything we can, but we can’t really do anything if you don’t have any operations on our land”.

Correct - but if you don’t comply and ever step foot in a EU country or a country that will extradite to the EU, you’re fucked. Most people hosting a Lemmy instance will shit themselves at the thought of having millions of dollars in fines and an arrest warrant against their name in a foreign country, even if they never intend on going to that country.
