  You should honestly stop going out at all, the person who is broken post covid is you. You’re taking it out on random wait staff you are choosing to patronize. Make your food yourself, drink your drinks at home, then the only person you’re making miserable is the person in the mirror.

    You left out the part that is actually being tipped for, bringing the food to you. The chefs are salary.

    People should be able to go out and buy thenfood at the prices listed.

      Agreed, the entire system of tipping the American way should be fucking illegal. Wait staff should earn a living wage. I think it’s way more complicated than that, and you see pushback from the owners and the servers, and any movements to change it haven’t had enough backing socially to change anything.

      But that’s kinda how it works, you choose to engage with it by going to an establishment with enployees that rely on tips. I mean hell, most of the time if you have a bad experience it’s due to something the waiter can’t control. Kitchen issues, staffing levels, poorly handled rushes. Being gleeful about how little you tip because of how things have changed… just don’t go out. Avoid having a shitty experience and being a shitty experience for someone else.

      Note that a lot of places tips don't go directtly tto wait stuff, it is being shared to subsidize salaries of everyone

  Saying that the service staff have a feeling of entitlement gives off the biggest dickhead energy I’ve seen in my life.

  “Oh those uppity servers with their cushy food service jobs think they deserve a tip, they only made it through a plague because they were deemed essential they didn’t do much”

  It’s not the service people that’s the problem, it’s a combination of the people not paying a living wage for these jobs and a bunch of other industries getting in on tipping culture to pad their wallets.

  Unless the person owns the business that server or cashier doesn’t even have a day in whether the POS has a tipping screen or not.

      Ok dipshit, maybe you didn’t pick up on the context because you were already frothing at the mouth and typing with your rage induced boner, because you clearly missed the part where I said that tipping is bullshit and that I think we should get rid of it. Maybe because your reading comprehension is worse than a second grader, or maybe because you’re so hyped up to start shit online you needed it spelled out for you. Maybe it’s your sexual frustration coming forward, I can only guess if you were worth guessing about. You don’t give a shit about other people so I don’t think you deserve the same.

      Because if you gave a shit about people maybe the last three neurons you have left that haven’t been destroyed by your apparent chronically online induced rabies would’ve had a get together, and realized that while we should get rid of tipping, since that legislation doesn’t FUCKING EXIST right now, maybe you should kinda tip the people who rely on it, since NOT tipping them doesn’t do shit for passing that legislation and they literally rely on that tip to, you know, live.

      Oh and since you’ve got baby brain levels of understanding, I’m not talking about tipping random businesses that’s don’t need it like your landlord, I’m talking about wait staff. Food servers. Delivery drivers. The ones getting fucked over.

    The only way you’ll ever get rid of tipping culture and not paying living wages because of tipping is to stop tipping. By tipping you’re reinforcing that it’s acceptable practice for businesses to rely on their customers donating to their staff in order for the staff to make a decent wage.

    If everyone stopped tipping, businesses would have to pay higher wages.

    That's my experience over last 1-2 years.

    If you have had positive experiences, you are free to tip whatever is demanded.

    If I am not getting decent services, I am done rewarding bad behavior.
