This comes up a lot and I wish I could see some real life examples, because it’s not something I see a lot. So maybe it’s a cultural/perception issue.

It could be that a culture like mine where it’s considered rude are more sensitive to it but it was definitely a thing.

I love Italy. Been there a good few times. The staring did stick with me though, along with lots of other more positive things.
