  And it can fairly easily carry on the air. So if air flow can get there, so can dust.

        Depends on the thickness. The thin ones need to be changed more than the thick ones.

        I have heard both quarterly and twice a year. There really is a ton of ‘it depends’. Mostly, does it look caked on after a quarter? If not, twice a year is fine.
