ICEBlock is very suspicious, no claims they make about privacy can be verified and Apple has access to all the userdata. As it is centrally run, there is also a good chance of the dev being threatened into handing over data to the feds.
Comment on YSK about StopICE.net to send and receive alerts about ICE raids in your area

For those on iPhone and at any risk, ICEBlock app is potentially better, as it maintains more privacy.
The reason they don’t do android:
At ICEBlock, user privacy and security are paramount. Our application is designed to provide as much anonymity as possible without storing any user data or creating accounts. While we understand the desire for an Android version of ICEBlock, achieving this level of anonymity on Android is not feasible due to the inherent requirements of push notification services.

Apple stores those unique IDs and absolutely will send them upon a legal warrant.
You can use fiftyfiftyonearizona.org/reports/ to receive StopICE alerts via NTFY.

Was just wondering how I could get the OP link into ntfy somehow. Glad I read the comments. Thanks for the link.

This isn’t run by the same entity. Its someone else. Don’t know how they get the data but there’s a link to source code.
themachine@lemmy.world 4 days ago
It’s sourced primarily from the stopice.net site so the alerts should be the same.

i don’t trust IceBlock. they don’t allow you to use the app at all without sharing your live location. it’s true iOS has better security and privacy, but whatever information any app collects from its users (like location data) will be sent to their own servers and cannot be confirmed by apple what they do with that data you willfully provided them

And these claims are largely BS…
Especially given that they can implement notifications, and bypass this system they are concerned about

Keep in mind their claims about Android have been clearly refuted and their claims in general are dubious.
