There exists a difference between sex and gender identity, but the word “sexism” is still applied, in some instances, in terms of relation to gender. For example, “Barbie is a girl’s toy, boys cannot play with Barbie Dolls. Boys must play with G.I Joe toys only.” Many people would respond with, “But that’s sexist”, even though the terms involve gender and not sex.
