I believe you’re supposed to switch at the episode titled “All Is One, One Is All” because it has the same title in both series. So you watch 27 episodes of FMA, and then start Brotherhood with episode 12

Or just watch both in full. While the ending of Brother hood was vetter than FMA’s ending, I think FMA’s ending was still good

The originals ending is a scrambled mess IMO because they ran out of manga/LN content and had to make up their own thing. I really don’t think it turned out well at all.
I do agree that it fleshed out the earlier arcs better but that’s because they were dragging their feet for time and new content. The pacing of Brotherhood is just right from start to finish.
