You’d do yourself a favor by not thinking and speaking for all of us.
Comment on YSK that after leaving power, Margaret Thatcher became a lobbyist for tobacco companies

Why are you posting this in YSK? How does this information improve anyone’s life in any way?
There is literally no-one here who doesn’t already think Thatcher was a piece of shit.

I’m not speaking for anyone but myself. I view this post as an example of a very persistent problem with Lemmy as a platform. Namely, that it seems only have four topics that people ever post about:
There’s nothing inherently wrong with posting about these topics but it really seems like whenever there exists a community isn’t about topics 2-4, people will make it about topic 1.
What’s this? Ranking Linux number 2? Heresy! /s
YSK Sidebar, rule 1:
This is a community to share tips and tricks that will help improve your life
Weird that this is the second post in a row I’ve seen just now like this. It’d be one thing if the comm wasn’t literally in the title as per the rules.
I’m more disappointed in the upvoters than the mods for this one.
Everyone’s life us made better by actively trashing Thatcher. That’s just a fact.
I for one knew it and yet I enjoy, in a very tragic way, discovering that she was, actually, even worst than I thought.
I have no idea who Thatcher is nor do i care, so i technically didnt know and will proceed to not know after i inevitably forget that name by the next post
Well, she’s a prominent figure in relatively recent world history whose actions are responsible in part for the world we have today. It’s kinda weird to be proud of historical ignorance.

Now I know she was an even bigger piece of shit than I thought.

Yeah, okay. But anger doesn’t make my life better. If I’m browsing this community I expect tips that can potentially improve the quality of my life, not just finding out about more mud on a dead 20th century dirt bag politician to be angry about.

Works both ways though. It was an interesting post and overreacting discourages others from posting when it is difficult to find a place where something fits.
We really need people that post cool or unique stuff far more than we need any unnecessary pedantism. Just because you imagine some specific category of a community does not make that universal by any stretch. This OP is trying to participate in posting with over twice the posts that you have made on this account. I’m an order of magnitude more than them in that regard. Posting is something to value highly from anyone here, narcissistic whining – not so much. I would post a lot more of people were more positive as would many others, remember that. You are either part of the problem or part of the solution, but you are not an exception.

You both make excellent points. I’m on the fence.

Let me put it this way. Lemmy infamously only has four topics that people post about:
Any community that isn’t about topics 2 to 4 will eventually become one about topic 1.

It’s not anger, I know people who praise Thatcher and it is unpleasant. Having one more argument against her in the conversations is a positive improvement on my life.
