This is a fantasy. Hell freezes before DRM gets removed from AAA games not on GOG.

Doesn’t DRM often get removed after a game wanes in popularity as it’s no longer worth the price to keep up the Denuvo license?
DeathsEmbrace@lemm.ee 6 days ago
Yeah thats why they sometimes move to GOG. You cant have DRM on GOG games.
Zorque@lemmy.world 6 days ago
But a game doesn’t have to be on GOG to not have DRM.

These days companies have started removing them after a year, since denuvo went to subscription route over a one time fee.

Most games I’ve wanted that have Denovu end up removing the DRM 6 months to a year after launch.

It still infects the vast majority of Sega and Ubisoft titles, despite their age.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 days ago
Idk about Sega, but yeah. Ubisoft sucks with this. But they suck for a lot of other things, too. 🤷🏻♂️

Denuvo specifically costs money as it’s some kind of subscription so from what I understand most games will drop denuvo one day or another the moment it costs more than the cost of piracy, which is probably once the wave of initial sales has passed.

One can only dream! Hopefully the hell freezes so they remove Denuvo :(
