It’s easy in this case because an invasion by sea is a big target, and you can hit them without any chance of them claiming they’re attacking their homeland. It will mostly be which side has more missiles or boats. I don’t know if they will actually do it because it’s not just a single invasion. They would have to violently occupy a medium size country. That would require several million soldiers to be stationed there and supplied from the mainland. They would have to do some conscription or spend a year gathering troops. It would be very obvious. And the part where they have 0 combat experience won’t help. They won’t be ready for at least another 5-10 years. Currently the ukraine war has showed that currently drones favor the defensive side and so that is bad for China. In the future that could change but right now any full scale invasion is unlikely.

I’m not sure what the US response to a Taiwan invasion would be. Ideally we shouldn’t start WWIII.
I remember seeing that a lot of companies set up their facilities to have a remote self destruct button.

I do know that the Taiwanese government has been building up a strong military. If it does happen China will need a huge force to get anywhere which will kill a lot of people.
I hope that doesn’t happen

Who do you assume china will start the war?
MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 3 days ago
Because they’re far away and china has to be the first one to move towards Taiwan.

The only reason China would attack Taiwan is if the US deploys troops there, and even then im not entirely convinced they would do it. The taiwanese state only card is to develop the living standards of taiwanese people at a faster rate than China, and that’s not gonna happen by spending more in overrated american military equipment. Its pretty evident to people from the region that taiwan has been stagnant for a long time while china has been flourishing, its just a matter of time that internal pressure pushes for reunification.

We need a war to jumpstart the economy. Problem is, no one wants to fight China.
