I wonder what George Orwell would have to say about all this… nvm, he already said everything there is to say.

He would love it since he was a right-wing pat, snitch and thief among other things.

Colour me surprised, Bloomcole with another shit-tier take. I only don’t block them because they by far have my lowest Voyager tracked user score, -83 as of this comment, and I’m curious to see how low it’ll go simply by incidental Bloomcole exposure.

Checked their post history, did not disappoint. Check out where they respond to their own moderated, removed comment in a two week old dead post. They had a bit of a tantrum when I pointed that out.

Ooooh. I had a feeling this was a thing. Got here via another post and was just blown away by how bad this take was.

Not sure if we are talking about the same George Orwell here or how you came to the conclusion that he was a “right-wing POS” - he was definitely not.

Yeah that comment is a weird take. I think he was in the British army nd stationed in India, he wrote a bit about that, both fiction and non fiction. It’s been a long time since I’ve read any of that. I recall it was nuanced and contextual.
Maybe that commenter can cite some specific examples to back that up.
Bloomcole@lemmy.world 1 day ago
He sure can.
But shouldn’t be surprised people think it’s a ‘weird take’.
After all the English voted for Churchill as greatest Britton ever.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they are just as ignorant about that monster as this bastard.
George Orwell (real name Eric Arthur Blair) was many things: a rapist, a bitter anti-Communist, a colonial cop, a racist, a Hitler apologist, a plagiarist, a snitch, and a CIA puppet. Rapist
Bitter anti-Communist
Ironically, the world of 1984 is mostly projection, based on Orwell’s own job at the British Ministry of Information during WWII. (Orwell: The Lost Writings)
Afterall, by his own admission, his only knowledge of the USSR was secondhand:
1984 is supposedly a cautionary tale about what would happen if the Communists won, and yet it was based on his own, actual, Capitalist country and his job serving it. Colonial Cop
Hitler Apologist
Orwell not only admired Hitler, he actually blamed the Left in England for WWII:
Plagiarist
1984
Animal Farm
Snitch
CIA Puppet
Many historians have noted how Orwell’s literary reputation can largely be credited to joint propaganda operations between the IRD and CIA who translated and promoted Animal Farm to promote anti-Communist sentiment.1 The IRD heavily marketed Animal Farm for audiences in the middle-east in an attempt to sway Arab nationalism and independence activists from seeking Soviet aid, as it was believed by IRD agents that a story featuring pigs as the villains would appeal highly towards Muslim audiences. 2

He ratted out left -wing resistance in Spain among other things.
You clearly know nothing about him.
Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Yep. I read some of his non fiction and he was clearly. a little Englander xenophobe. I have no doubt he would have supported Brexit and be hostile to.immigrants if he was around today.
RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 1 day ago
you really shouldn’t project that shit on the other people without really knowing for sure
Bloomcole@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Very much hated blacks and gays. He stole the Animal farm idea that was about nazism and made it into anti-communist propaganda.
Also tried to rape a girl when he wasn’t busy being a rat and snitching on left-wing elements he infiltrated.
Total scum.
