I feel like some kind of fold up option is just going to cause problems. I wonder if a delta would be better for that- haven’t played with one but maybe the up-and-down motion would be easier to self calibrate and compensate for any play.

Since I got some step losses on my printer (fixed long ago), I keep wondering if our lives wouldn’t be much better with closed loop controlling of all the movements.
