  I played through about 80% of the 3rd one when I was a teenager, still gonna try and jump into this.

  A similar game, if you had a PS2, was Radiata Stories, which I think would translate to an anime better since there’s no prequel/sequel.

    The Suikoden games are not all that tightly linked, if that helps. 2, which is what they’re basing the anime on, has a different protagonist than 1 and takes place in a different location in the same world, although some secondary characters do appear in more than one game.
