Comment on Global EV market faces major shakeup as Tesla recedes, BYD ascends

BYD’s system, even if the production version is significantly less powerful, is still a massive step forward, and goes a long way towards making road trips towing a trailer, for example, a realistic proposal.
With my diesel SUV, I can start a trip with a full tank, and still need to fill up twice, in a vehicle with more range than almost any EV.

I’ve only just heard about BYD yesterday and I’m suddenly hearing from all corners that they are dominating. I’m in the western US. Are they just not in my local market yet?

Not allowed in the US. Sometimes this sort of protectionism works, but not while you’re destroying Tesla and legacy manufacturers are going back to gas. By the time Trump is out, the entire American car industry will no longer be able to compete in the global market

Chinese EVs are effectively banned in US with 100% tariff, and a hateful disposition. The higher end chinese cars could compete with Ferarri/Lamborghi segment though, even at 100%.
