I never foresaw a future in which I’d have to determine whether someone was addressing a fictional doctor, a US vice president, or a liquor company.
Comment on Jack Daniel’s maker says Canada pulling US alcohol off shelves ‘worse than tariff’
Gerudo@lemm.ee 19 hours ago
Correct me if I’m wrong Canadians, but I’m assuming there wasn’t a national mandate to pull American products off the shelves. This was a decision that individual businesses or companies chose to do, to not support our dumbasses over here in the states. You know, like every business chooses what to put on their shelves.
So in other words, shut the fuck up JD.

The distribution of alcohol in Canada is handled through province-level agencies (like states in the US). Most premiers (like governors in the US) ordered to stop distributing US alcohol in the individual provinces.

Liquor stores are government run in most Canadian territories. It wasn’t a National mandate, but it was a government mandate in the provinces that did make that decision.

Liquor in Ontario is sold and controlled by the LCBO, and were directed to remove all American products from the shelves by our Premier (governer sorta)
Same with BC and NS. So not a Federal/National mandate, but a political one indeed.

Same with the SAQ in Quebec and although it very closely follows the LCBO in total L sold (which is scary considering the difference in population and the fact that alcohol is more broadly available outside the crown corporation), it’s the biggest importer of alcohol in the world because Ontario buys a much bigger proportion of Canadian alcohol compared to Quebec…
But Jack Daniels itself though, Ontario is probably a bigger market because Ontarians drink more strong alcohol and Quebecois drink more wine…
