It doesn’t matter really what people say, but more how they are dealt with. Are those users still posting from lemm.ee?
Every instance has assholes, I’m not apologizing for them, but pointing out that it’s the process of removal that really matters
Comment on Hexbear federation megathread
HornyOnMain@hexbear.net 1 year agosome posts suggesting lemm.ee is for racists.
This feeling has kind of permeated hexbear since early on in our federation we had several lemm.ee users seek out hexbear purposely to start shit with in various cases:
defending the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and then outright saying that Japanese lives were worth less than American lives, repeatedly insulting non binary users for their pronouns and calling them all mentally ill basement dwellers, defending whermacht war criminals, repeatedly insulting users for being from the second world, using ableist slurs against the users, defending WW2 Nazi collaborators who killed thousands of Jews, insisting that all the non binary and trans people in the instance (including me) are lying about being trans and are actually far right people doing an extended bit in order to mock trans people, etcetera, etcetera
Basically we just had the worst pieces of shit from lemm.ee seek out hexbear and this soured a lot of the userbase against it. Rn I’m of the opinion that the moderation here is far too lax, but I’m realising it’s not the cesspool of bigotry it came off as based on the users from lemm.ee who have been coming into our instance in these first few days of federation

Idk, my point wasn’t that your instance was inherently bad, I was just explaining why so many hexbears consider it to be a hive of bigots; we just extrapolated, mostly incorrectly, from the small sample size of users who came looking for us specifically to start shit
Like hexbear is moderated far more strictly than lemm.ee is and so I think there’s more wriggle room to exist here without getting instabanned, but I don’t think this is like a mega bigotry instance like it seemed to be at first

I just want to clear up that lemm.ee admins do not receive any reports about lemm.ee users made by hexbear users on non-lemm.ee communities. It’s a serious shortcoming in Lemmy right now, and a huge struggle for us.
If somebody signs up on lemm.ee, and only posts garbage on other instances while managing to remain unreported by any lemm.ee user, then it’s basically invisible to our own admins. Hopefully this is something that can be improved in future versions of Lemmy.

Oh, that's interesting. I was under the impression that when you report a comment the report goes to 3 places. The community moderator(s), the instance admin(s) of the community, and the instance admin(s) of the reported user.
Is this a current bug or was I just totally wrong and it never went to the instance admin(s) of the reported user?

It does indeed go to three places, but the third one is kind of useless in most cases:
