Yeah it was endearing, but it’s just not that relevant. The story knows that, so they don’t properly tie it off either.
Maybe they weren’t satisfied with leaving us on one cliffhanger so they decided to leave us on two!
In fairness, this is based off the manga so the story wasn’t necessarily paced out with anime episode lengths in mind.
