Comment on @Hubzilla Support Forum Can't see, what this is good for or what it's supposed

Well, there is absolutely no need. But some folks think that every piece of software created with C has to be rewritten with Rust.
where's the need to rustify this coming from at all?

I had design decisions and Claude. It's not written in Rust for no reason.
That's not the point. It's written in Rust so it...
1. lasts
2. is unbreakable
3. crates
4. AI and the borrow checker
5. because every other way we tried was a mess
You are missing the point. And a lot of detail. We haven't changed a line of Hubzilla. It's implemented over it. No way in the universe could this code be written by less than a gang of high level programmers.
We have developed a whole toolset and a form of language. It was from doing that to Hubzilla that lead to "make our own image editor" for a whole set of desktop apps.
You guys are getting the first look at it. Before anyone. A whole concept came from WFT Rust on Hubzilla.
If you wanted to you could take our code and backend it with zig or c.
Every item of every interface is a JSON Atom that triggers a response in a headless editor. That's how we built over Hubzilla.
I have my own goals from this. It's not a Hubzilla upgrade or a fork.
It's got some rough edges but it is an excellent technology trial.
Hubzilla is a different experience in Rust & WASM. It changes the cache opportunities. After you have loaded the site once it will load in 1-2 seconds.
A technology preview for you guys.
It's running on a dedicated Fedora box on Dreamcompute. It's a lot more than just Hubzilla. I doubt you could do the install on a shared server.
There's a difference between rewriting and building on. It might inspire you lot. It's very snappy. We did a lot of back end work that likely doesn't translate. Researched the hell and of caching and used multiple models and optimizations.
If you want me to tell you why it is Rust I can...
Doesn't have C++ near code they messes with how the AI thinks.
Have the best feedback when something is wrong.
Doesn't continually turn to shit like JS does.
Has great options to go from Web to Desktop via Tauri and further to Iced.
And we built all the tools around what worked best without tools.
It's not a tiny performance gain.
I’m in much the same boat. I’ve created an account and a channel, but the page I’m shown is rather basic. I can’t post my own content, or at least I can’t find how to do it (even though I’ve searched long and hard… but it must be possible, because @ema@utasansh.in also has a channel there and has posted something… which I was at least able to comment on).
It might be interesting if you want to develop your own application with the ‘Hubzilla engine under the bonnet’, but personally it doesn’t do anything for me (especially as it’s apparently entirely AI-generated).
As I’m getting nowhere with it and can’t see any point or purpose in it for myself… and I’m also wondering how the constant AI support is supposed to be funded, I’ve at least managed to get round it by going to settings/account to delete my account (hopefully for good).
