- Comment on Can a U.S. Ally Actually Be Held Accountable for War Crimes in the ICC? 5 months ago:
I'm not sure about the logistics of this, but if Netanyahu doesn't get a guilty verdict it'll validate all criticism of the ICC as a neo-colonialist tool.
- Comment on Israel Gaza war: ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders 5 months ago:
But even by proxy, leaders are responsible for the actions of their subordinates.
Up to a point. If he says "I never gave that order" I don't think anyone can prive otherwise, is what I'm trying to say.
- Comment on Israel Gaza war: ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders 5 months ago:
As the leaders of a militant faction, like a regular military they are responsible for training their soldiers (or equivalent) and keeping them in line during operations.
Does that responsibility fall on the top leaders or field commanders though? I can definitely see the argument that Hamas leadership is too easy on atrocities in general having legal ground, but how far up the ladder can you take that? Not trying to defend them or saying we should go easy on them here, don't get me wrong, but at least from an international law context I think Sinwar's hands are pretty clean?
- Comment on Israel Gaza war: ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders 5 months ago:
and it was a well financed and coordinated attack.
True enough, but there's only so much you can do once the soldiers are actual fighting if you're not on the field (especially when you don't particularly care either way). That said, I haven't seen anything since this "war" started that would serve as evidence to implicate, say, Sinwar in an international court of law. If he says "our plans didn't involve attacking civilians our soldiers didn't it out of their own accord" nobody can prove him wrong. Now I do think that's actually what happened (from a strategic perspective Hamas has too much to lose and too little to gain by killing civilians during a military attack), but even if that's not the case there's simply too little evidence to prove it.
- Comment on Israel Gaza war: ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders 5 months ago:
Then who orchestrated the attacks on only civilians?
They... didn't? That's exactly what I'm talking about. The attack had clear military objectives (taking hostages is morally grey but still not the kind of atrocity we're talking about). At least as far as I know everything you'll think of when you hear the words "Oct 7 Hamas atrocity" can be passed as, and probably is, spontaneous violence caused by the fact that Gazans hate Israelis' guts rather than any orders from the top brass.
- Comment on Israel Gaza war: ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders 5 months ago:
I mean is there anything proving Hamas leaders intentionally planned any civilian deaths?

Martyr to who?
His supporters? I mean he has to have those or the regime would've collapsed long ago.
- Comment on What do we know so far about the mysterious crash of the helicopter carrying Iran's president? 5 months ago:
I mean I hate the shit out of Israel and the US but this ain't it. Israel has nothing at all to gain from doing something like this and turning the figurehead (who doesn't actually present a material loss for Iran) into a martyr. This does everything to weaken opposition to the Irani regime and strengthen said regime and nothing to give Israel an advantage in their conflict with them.

I've never used a Mac but my experience with iPhones and iPads (not mine) has convinced me to never touch anything Apple makes. The requirement of iTunes to send files between an iPhone and a PC is, for example, just ridiculous.

Okay I looked it up and here's what reputable media (which the economic times is not) has to say on the topic:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cljdjw2jrnzo
It's an abandoned UN warehouse. Hamas only came after the UN left following Israeli evacuation orders, which is very much not the implication in your link. There's nothing to investigate.
- Comment on ‘No water, food, health care, toilet’: Desperation deepens in Gaza’s camps 6 months ago:
Source? Where are you getting this info
The UN came out to correct the misunderstanding:
Also setting aside how GHM numbers are and have always been accurate according to literally everyone (Hamas has a lot to lose and nothing to gain from faking them), Fox News? Seriously? If you're gonna make claims find a source worth reading.
- Comment on ‘No water, food, health care, toilet’: Desperation deepens in Gaza’s camps 6 months ago:
Uh... No. They still use GHM numbers. The UN revised numbers are fully identified deaths, meaning people with a first and last name next to their entry in the GHM's database. This is opposed to non-fully identified deaths, where it's known that X number of people died (for example an Israeli bombed blew X people to smithereens and they're unidentifiable or there's nobody left to identify them because the whole family is dead). non-fully identified numbers are the same.

- Comment on American wanting to move abroad, what's the best bet for an registered nurse? 6 months ago:
Yeah. The protests aren't because Bibi's actions are too right-wing; they're because even as a far-right leader he's doing a shit job. Him being a genocidal far right leader isn't, as a rule, an issue with the general Israeli public.
- Comment on American wanting to move abroad, what's the best bet for an registered nurse? 6 months ago:
There are protests against Bibi because of his disregard for the hostages' lives and attempt to destroy Israeli democracy. His party isn't losing support AFAIK, and the right wing is actually growing.
- Comment on As Israel Begins “Final Phase” of Genocide, Biden Slams Pro-Palestine Protests 6 months ago:
Young voters don't vote as much as other demographics, but they definitely do vote. I think it was 40% turnout in 2016, but don't quote me on it. Anyway that 40% is definitely disproportionately republican, but there's a good number of democrats there. The idea that the Democrats have nothing to lose by antagonizing young people is wrong.
- Comment on Western media launders israeli lies to manufacture more consent for Genocide 6 months ago:
But that doesn’t mean I have to think Hamas are the good guys.
Okay Hamas are not good guys, not at all. While I don't think persecuting war criminals is viable in Gaza even if they wanted to, even setting that aside they have a lot of not very good deeds under their belt. That said, they can't be blamed for taking hostages. It sucks for them and their families, no doubt about that, but on the other hand we have 2mil+ people's lives at stake. The hostages, and the Israeli administration's blatant disregard for their lives, have been a decisive issue in pitting the Israeli public against the government. They're also Hamas's only card in negotiations, or in other words the only currency Hamas has to pay for Gazan lives and "freedom". It sucks that lives are being used as currency, but that's a case of don't blame the player, blame the game. Of course the actual treatment of hostages during and after October 7th is a different story and there's some Hague-worthy nonsense there, but the statement "Hamas took hostages on October 7th" has nothing indictable on its own.
- Comment on Western media launders israeli lies to manufacture more consent for Genocide 6 months ago:
You’re also missing the fact that regardless of the target, the attack was launched from a civilian structure.
So:
1-All above-ground structures in Gaza are civilian structures. Do you think Israel would allow Hamas to have an above-ground military base?
2-It was launched 350m from a civilian shelter. In Rafah, one of the most overcrowded cities on Earth. It's a surprise there's a place that far from a civilian shelter.

As another guy living in Japan (not rent-free though; I live in Osaka) this place is ridiculously well designed. Even Osaka (3rd biggest city in Japan after Tokyo and Yokohama) has enough space you could easily take in a whole bunch of people before it becomes even uncomfortably crowded.
