- Comment on It's interesting that we have multiple appliances in the kitchen who's sole job is to turn electricity into heat. 2 weeks ago:
I don’t think I explained very well. It has two tanks. Storage water tank and a boiling tank which is under the storage tank. It draws water into the boiling tank which is 1 cup size. Once it’s hot it shoots the water out of the spout into the cup. Water from the storage tank fills the boiling tank.
- Comment on It's interesting that we have multiple appliances in the kitchen who's sole job is to turn electricity into heat. 2 weeks ago:
Not as fancy as heat pumps but our kettle boils one cup at a time and the boiling chamber is under the water tank. Some of the wasted energy goes to warm up the water in the tank meaning less energy is needed for the next cup. It’s probably not that efficient but it’s better than nothing.
- Comment on Big Brother just got an upgrade. Starting December, Amazon’s Ring cameras will scan and recognize faces. Don’t want to be in their database? Too bad — walk past a Ring and your face can be stored... 3 weeks ago:
Same as non-legal ebikes perhaps? Where I live the police don’t seem to care unless the rider happens to be a drug dealer or otherwise wanted by the police.
I’d take a guess that while a ring doorbell might be illegal and not enforced, it probably means the recorded footage might be not accepted in court if ever needed… Perhaps (I’m not a lawyer or even closed SE to an expert). Unless a doorbell inspector becomes a thing then it probably just slides.
- Comment on 3 Outdoor broadband hub UK 3 weeks ago:
I didn’t know they did an outdoor hub. I’ve been using a Three 5G broadband hub for a few years. I bought my own Pointing external antenna and connected it to the hub. It works well. The antenna boosts the signal significantly (I forget how much exactly).
The issue I have isn’t the hub or antenna, it’s Three themselves. Quite often the 5G gets slow, as in unusably slow. The signal is strong so I assume it’s an issue with their masta or over subscribed. It doesn’t happen as much these days though.
Because I was unsure when I first wanted one I opted for a monthly contract and not a year. It allowed me to test how well it works before cancelling my existing broadband.

I’ve never had a twitter account. It had no benefit to me when it was first made, whereas now it’s something much worse.
- Comment on Britain’s illegal e-bike boom: desperation, delivery drivers – and unthinkable danger 1 month ago:
I totally agree. I have a legal ebike and make sure I’m safe and within the law. I don’t want to risk my driving license, or injuring anybody.
Ebikes are generally a lot heavier than a normal push bikes. The stopping distance is terrible especially down a hill. If I were to go at high speeds on it then it would be very dangerous. I should think top-end ebike have good brakes but most of the cheaper one, such as mine, do not. I am keen on upgrading the brakes though.
- Comment on Britain’s illegal e-bike boom: desperation, delivery drivers – and unthinkable danger 1 month ago:
They can throw the book at these illegal ebike riders. Unregistered moped, no insurance, no MOT, dangerous vehicle (by means of no MOT to prove otherwise).

Never had this problem. I have that annoying little nail splitting out from my little toe. Gets snagged on socks all the time.

- Comment on UK cyber vigilantes generating mock IDs of local MPs to protest Online Safety Act 2 months ago:
It can be used by AI age verification tools on a bunch of websites. So yes I guess that is fraud. But these tools claim not to store the data in the verification process. If somebody could prove a made up ID was used then I suspect they’re in bigger shit for a GDPR leak.

- Comment on UK households could face VPN 'ban' after use skyrockets following Online Safety Bill 2 months ago:
It’s not just remote work. All our manufacturing sites use to VPN connections data centres. It would cripple manufacturing on an epic scale if they were instabanned.

If they ban VPN’s that’s going to hit corporations harder than the average person.
- Comment on Smh being fired for police work 5 months ago:
Reed admitted that at a police station, in front of colleagues, he had pulled down the officer’s trouser zip, inserted his hand and touched his penis before shouting ‘it’s a small one’.
Later says it was just banter!!
I wonder what the situation was. If someone touches my zip I would instantly pull backwards.

Wow this makes me realise why so many movies set in New York I watched in the 80’s and 90’s often had steam coming up from the ground.

This should be the test all millionaires and billionaires have to take yearly. If they fail, they are no longer fit to own or lead a business.

I had forgotten about the bw TV crackles. The static they creat too and touching the screen with my knuckle when turning it off. The glow which disappears.
I remember having a top loading VHS machine which was pretty fancy at the time. It had a remote control, which was on a 5m cable!

Some of the stuff I’d like to try again, maybe once or twice. The sound of the pips, modem sounds, aligning a type written head after using some tipex, the rhythmic sounds of a floppy drive, the added noise of your favourite song recorded on an old tape, low battery on a walkman. The list goes one!
- Comment on My kids bored out of their minds with a house full of toys, don't know how good they got it 8 months ago:
I would guess they used wood pegs either end to make it durable. Wood doesn’t preserve as well and stone.
There’s also no sense of scale. To me it looks like a roller skate. Shaped like a sandal, wider wheel base at the front for stability and it could have have leather or twine round the back of the heal. I could be totally wrong but that was my thinking when looking at it.
