- Comment on What are the biggest red flags when talking with a Trek "fan"? 2 months ago:
Oh inside the ship definitely, but outside space doesn’t have a down. If a photon torpedo really hit the front it would push the ship backwards, not to the front and down. But it’s ok, it’s just a bit of fun 🚀
- Comment on What are the biggest red flags when talking with a Trek "fan"? 2 months ago:
I hadn’t watched any Trek in a while and in Picard there was a scene where their ship was hit and started listing like a boat and I was like “that’s not how space works!”, then remembered that’s the thing with Star Trek.

I loved my MiniDisc player, I wish Sony had opened up the tech.
- Comment on Proton launches privacy-focused Google Docs alternative: Docs in Proton Drive is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted collaborative document editor 4 months ago:
I degoogled to Proton mail initially. I didn’t like that I couldn’t search my emails (a security thing or something? But annoying) and then their Drive was absolutely useless on macos. I had about 100gb and it couldn’t sync even half of it.
After much help from support I eventually moved away to a combo of Fastmail, Mega and OnlyOffice.

I think politicians should be banned from owning multiple properties. It’s a huge conflict of interest.
- Comment on ‘Hate is not a family value’: protesters clash as Sydney council considers rescinding same-sex parenting book ban 5 months ago:
It wasn’t even a parenting book, it was a kids book helping them to understand about same sex parents. Apparently at the meeting some people said maybe it should be moved to the adults section until it was pointed out it is for kids.

All good! The laptop I was using Linux on I installed batocera on instead 😊
- Comment on Which OS do you use for your homeserver? 9 months ago:
Maybe, but I’m not a huge Linux user and every time I dip my toe in I run out of tinkering time. Plus I had the Air laying around and it all installed so easily.

Just to be controversial, macos. It’s nothing fancy, just the arrs and Jellyfin running on an old MacBook air.

I keep hearing about Kagi, are they reputable? I moved from Google to DDG and I do a fair bit of searching so I would be interested, but I guess there’s a bit of a one-company-knowing-my-search-history going on (totally unironically).

- Comment on Apple’s MacBook Pro memory problem is worse than ever 10 months ago:
I used to use Windows a long time ago, it was always slow and crap. I also tinkered with Linux but I don’t want to spend my free time (and some of my work time) troubleshooting. I like the idea of Linux, but for most people it isn’t there yet. Windows is just bad.
Apple has created a situation where, for better or worse, they are both the software and hardware. Yes, you’re locked in and pay for the name, all of that, but also they work. Really well. No troubleshooting, no bloat or slowing down. That’s what people pay for.
