Where’d all the comments go

True a few minutes for one host but the way it was phrased sounds like the entire thing is going down for aa significant period of time

I’ve been meaning to get a hetzner server, they seem pretty good overall

What kind of web hosting service needs to entirely shut down to do maintenance? Surely they could do a gradual rollout once they’d found a solution to the issue
- Comment on Seeking feedback: how should lemm.ee move forward with external images? (related to frequent broken images) 4 weeks ago:
I believe just passing through external images is the way to go, it’s always the one I opt for it I can
Hosting those images is gonna get expensive and that kinda sucks for a donation run platform when that money could be far better spent elsewhere
I think also using external image sources is more in line with the idea of decentralisation, Lemmy isn’t an image host it’s a link aggregator and forum - I believe most image hosting sites will be far better at loading images quickly than Lemmy’s implementation could ever be

I don’t think clientside anticheat is a good solution by any means.
Built in multiplayer cheats? Isn’t that just pay to win?
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 1 month ago:
I think people misunderstood my comment, I meant I think the ddosers and the cheaters are more or less the same group. Don’t imagine the majority of people in the Linux community would think that’s a good way to get rockstar to listen
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 1 month ago:
Cheating is absolutely not the same issue as piracy though, one is people wanting an unearned power trip over others and one is the service issue piracy is
You’re not gonna convince cheaters to stop cheating by offering them a better experience
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 1 month ago:
I’m pretty sure there’s not a valid reason for players to be able to spawn giant Ferris wheels in people’s garages, that seems like a fairly easy one to test for
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 1 month ago:
I’m upset they nuked Linux support, my PC is Linux and have a steam deck
I’m still not going to fucking ddos them for it
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 1 month ago:
They’re kinda proving rockstar’s point, I am fairly sure the venn diagram of “protesters” and cheaters is more or less a circle

What’s your sample size, do you actually talk to many gen z
If you asked them where they saved a photo on a smartphone they’re not going to tell you a filepath because that’s not how people use smartphones. I probably couldn’t tell you where photos are stored physically on my phone without going out of my way to find that info
Also Google photos is a valid answer to that question because the file is saved in Google photos, just because it’s cloud storage doesn’t make it not storage. In that case local storage is basically just a cache anyway

That’s a conscious decision though I said someone who doesn’t know
- Comment on Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills 2 months ago:
It’s a pretty good indicator. If you spend all day working with computers chances are you’ll be able to type quickly
- Comment on Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills 2 months ago:
Pretty sure someone who doesn’t know to plug their GPU in is probably not running Linux
- Comment on Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills 2 months ago:
We didn’t have specific typing class but we had IT in both primary and secondary, at least late gen z got plenty of computer time in school and most I know in my generation are decent typists at least

Man look at millennials turning into boomers at record pace
“back in my day we did things properly, now all these damn kids… etc etc”

You really had a hard time deciding on pronouns didn’t you
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 2 months ago:
Honestly what is with the comrade/them shit they do about? I thought it was ironic like they were making fun of neopronouns or they were the 4chan people who popularised them in the first place
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 2 months ago:
Every single person I’ve seen defending it has been a lemmy.ml user which from my understanding is not too dissimilar from hexbears
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 2 months ago:
I love that without fail every single person in this thread defending hexbears is from ml with the same pronoun tag format every single hexbears seems to have
Almost like they’re hexbear alts or something

- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
Yeah that was exactly what I was thinking, and/or doing a similar thing in lua as an nvim plugin
That said I’m not sure if neovim would support something like that
- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
My plan is not to have multiple files at all, or at least if there is a second one have it be temporary
The problem with the approach of having an intermediary format is I need to create the intermediate format, and given yaml starts for yet another markup language that doesn’t seem like a good idea (also a ton of effort to reinvent the wheel)
- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
Can usually tell when it’s obviously bullshitting me and verify it if it’s not. You can often get it to correct itself if you call it out
(This was the first time I’ve seen it incorrectly “corrected” itsself)
I think I did a quick search but it seemed so strange to me I just wrote it off straight away

What kind of problems? I’m unfamiliar with anchors in yaml
- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
Not a terrible idea to add bits into the JSON but it makes it much harder to program, going for a quick and easy fix here rather than writing my own parser
- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
Seriously? Chatgpt told me that once and I thought it was just hallucinating
Problem is it’s for configuration of other services I didn’t write, I would just use JSON in the first place if I were defining the schema
- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
Comments are an issue I’d have to think about. Would prebuilt libraries for importing/exporting data from/to these languages not handle the multiline strings for me?
What do anchors do in yaml I’ve never heard of them before
- Comment on Sanity checking an idea for editing yaml without wanting to throw my laptop out the window 7 months ago:
I’m using neovim. It doesn’t magically solve my problems with yaml though
