- Comment on LineageOS now officially supports the Pixel 9 series 2 weeks ago:
To be honest I do not see any reason to use Lineage with Pixel while there is GrapheneOS… But maybe there will be some users of it: it is always better to have more free open OS
- Comment on Russian TV companies demand 2 undecillion rubles from Google 2 months ago:
What do you think, how long should we wait until the overflow in the debts database makes the value negative?
- Comment on MAGA World’s Belief In Their Made Up Claim That Biden Is ‘Censoring’ Conservatives On Social Media May Kill KOSA 3 months ago:
As I can understand from EFF articles, the problem is not only in MAGA guys and their conspiracy but in KOSA proposal itself.
- Comment on Efficiently Manage Memory Usage in Pandas with Large Datasets 5 months ago:
If I already use Pandas for processing my data in-memory, CoW can significantly improve the performance. That was my point.
- Comment on Efficiently Manage Memory Usage in Pandas with Large Datasets 5 months ago:
If you are doing data processing in pandas CoW allows to avoid of a lot of redundant computations on intermediate steps. Before CoW any data processing in Pandas required manual and careful working with code to avoid the case described in the blog post. To be honest I cannot imagine the case of offloading each result of each operation in the pipeline to the storage…

- Comment on Anyone can Access Deleted and Private Repository Data on GitHub. 5 months ago:
The title is very click bait imo. It is not about any private data. It is a very specific case of deleted fork of the public repository. It is a bug, of course. But it doesn’t look so serious as I was thinking when saw the title.
- Comment on Europe must end its quantum technology research with China over security and military risks of collaboration, researcher says 5 months ago:
I did not see in article any proof that Chineese scientists have a bad intentions. A statement about “they always do it [because they are evil maoists]” is not a proof for me.
- Comment on Europe must end its quantum technology research with China over security and military risks of collaboration, researcher says 5 months ago:
I did not see in the article any arguments, except the fact that Chinese researchers are in some US blacklists. Only proclamations about EU should restrict, EU should prevent, etc. But without any arguments why. Maybe lack of actual arguments is the reason why the article is so short?
- Comment on Ask HN: Can we create a new internet where search engines are irrelevant? 8 months ago:
The problem is that personalization of search results tends to information bubbles. That is the reason why I prefer DDG over Google.
- Comment on Telegram Is a 'Scammer's Paradise' Thanks to Cheap Phishing Tools 11 months ago:
Maybe my opinion is biased. But in Russia where I was living until the beginning of 2024, only in Telegram you was able to find channels on independent media and bots, like “smart vote” (the project of russian opposition about coordinate voting against ruling party). And I understand that if opposition leader can easily create bot that would be very hard to block, then anyone, including spammer, can easily create such a bot that would be very hard to block.
- Comment on Telegram Is a 'Scammer's Paradise' Thanks to Cheap Phishing Tools 11 months ago:
Imo, it is a kind of trade-off between speech of freedom and easy automation/integration and all this spam. I’m ok with it, just a couple of marks in settings (like only my contacts can send me messages). If one wants to have a spam-free space, they can go to Facebook Messages or something like this. I can not imagine how Telegram can fight all this spam without hiring a lot of moderators like Facebook. Even to hire moderators, Telegram needs to change the business model and start selling user data for advertising.
