run on Steam Deck
I might just pick this up then.
- Comment on Reddit CEO Steve Huffman says that while there are legit types of AI content on the platform, the company is considering Face ID and other passkey verification methods to ensure there's human behind 2 weeks ago:
Reddit spent years not giving a fuck about bots because they artificially inflated the user account, the abrupt about face is suspicious as hell.
- Comment on Online age checks came first — a VPN crackdown could be next 2 weeks ago:
I am all for stopping it, but the politicians suggesting these bans have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about or how damn near impossible it would be to actually accomplish: Fight it? Absolutely! It’s stupid as hell and will be a complete waste of time and money. It will 100% not stop anyone with even moderate technical ability and will be used as another excuse to punish people.
- Comment on Online age checks came first — a VPN crackdown could be next 2 weeks ago:
They’re not doing so great, but also, if someone really wants to use an encrypted connection there’s ways around it even in places like Russia and China.
- Comment on Online age checks came first — a VPN crackdown could be next 2 weeks ago:
They’re legally banned but that has not stopped the use of VPNs in the countries that tried to ban them, there are already multiple ways around the efforts to stop them.
- Comment on [deleted] 2 weeks ago:
All modern cars are vulnerable, not just EVs. If you wanted something “hackerproof”, get an older vehicle with manual transmission and no infotainment center. No drive or brake by wire.
- Comment on Online age checks came first — a VPN crackdown could be next 2 weeks ago:
This article seems a little misinformed: VPNs are still regularly used in business and are necessary for companies to function. That’s still probably their primary use if I had to guess.
- Comment on What's the weirdest argument you've gotten into with someone? 2 weeks ago:
I had someone tell me I was full of shit and a coward for suggesting a full face helmet for downhill skating (for reference, DH skating can get you traveling at highway speeds). They were talking about if you wore a helmet, a regular park helmet would be totally fine because they’re designed for skateboarding falls. I tried to explain that park skating and DH are two totally different things, which need different gear and skills, but they just kept doubling down on their crazy bullshit. It was either a troll or an insane person but either way, I regret wasting my time on their bullshit. Hopefully the person we were trying to help just ignored their stupid ass.
- Comment on New Steam Beta can run the Linux client inside a container with 64bit 2 weeks ago:
That’s not really Valve’s fault: Tell the other companies to suck less! All the other services are fucking terrible by comparison, GOG is the only one that comes close.
- Comment on Do most comedians invite heclers to their shows? And they go over the bit so it seems sporadic? And get them more views or clicks or whatever? Kind of like a magician does with a plant? 2 weeks ago:
I don’t know about most, however, it’s not unheard of to plant a heckler who you’ve rehearse with. Probably not a standard practice, but it’s happened.

Cover the printer to protect from dust and seal your filament in airtight containers with some sort of desiccant.
- Comment on Which Linux Distribution has the best Community Support? 4 weeks ago:
A Debian based distro is probably your best bet (Mint is my favorite, but there’s a few options including Ubuntu and of course Debian itself).

- Comment on (serious) What would we be losing in a world where most people didn't own a car? Please read the OP before posting. 5 weeks ago:
I’m not saying it would be practical in your case, but you could definitely carry 6 weeks of groceries on a cargo bike (ebike would be better given the load though). Hell, you might even be able to do that on a regular bike. I can fit at least 60 liters of groceries into my Portola, and that isn’t even including the top rear cargo rack. In an actual cargo bike, you could probably fit like 2+ months of groceries.
- Comment on (serious) What would we be losing in a world where most people didn't own a car? Please read the OP before posting. 5 weeks ago:
4 miles is not very far at all on a bike, 30 isn’t too crazy either. I think people misunderstand just how far you can travel on a bicycle.

Lots of weight and heart disease I bet. On a related note, I rode my bike to work today and it was great.

- Comment on California introduces age verification law for all operating systems, including Linux and SteamOS — user age verified during OS account setup 5 weeks ago:
What the fuck? This is ridiculous and it won’t actually solve anything at all.
- Comment on AI is the digital equivalent of an atom bomb. You can refuse it but you can't prevent others from using it... and there may be dire consequences if only the worst people have it. 5 weeks ago:
I’d be more worried about that if it wasn’t a fucking dumpster fire TBH, but a person using AI won’t even be remotely capable of competing against a person who genuinely knows what they’re doing for anything that actually matters: AI is dangerous to use if you are unable to correct the mistakes it is guaranteed to make.

If that’s all you want, making something that just clips onto your existing glasses might be pretty viable.
- Comment on 1 month ago:
I don’t think that would work particularly well with AR: People get sick if movement isn’t synced up properly, not having any sort of cameras or sensors at all would exacerbate that problem.
If you are talking about a simple HUD, then that might be a lot more viable, but for AR and the tech we currently have, some sort of camera or sensor array is kind of a requirement.

You are driving the car though, even if it’s just down the street, that’s not a great move: Knock the snow off before you get onto the road, even if it’s a short trip.

- Comment on Newish to Fediverse - do I use one account across all services? 1 month ago:
I use Piefed and Lemmy. You can use one or all or any combination thereof but being on all of them would be a lot to manage. I started with Lemmy and am probably going to end up using PieFed (or maybe Mbin) because they have more features and better interfaces.

Beans, peppers, onions, corn, beans, more beans, possibly some ground pork, as well as beans.
Also, tomato paste, some hot sauce, and beans.
