Agreed! I think both linting and type checking are extremely important to Python, but it’s also an extra step that far too many people just don’t take. And honestly, I used to get tripped up sometimes with setting up Python tooling before I started using uv.
Unfortunately I also have to work with the occasional Python script that someone just slapped together, and that’s something far too easy to do in Python. It does kind of remind me of vibe coding. Initial velocity seems high, but if you’re not thinking about it, long term maintenance tanks.
That’s not to say Python is bad, and there is certainly a lot of good Python code out there too. But it’s a language that does make it easy to make a mess, which will probably be compounded by LLMs.

I find that Python requires a fair bit of discipline to keep it readable, and I’ve seen some very unreadable code written by people. Vibe coding with Python’s dynamic nature seems like a match made in hell.

It won’t be discounted, but I’m looking forward to Death Stranding 2 which is out that day.

I played the demo and really liked it, but I’ve held off on buying it because of the bugs. Hopefully this fixes the major bugs!

I like that they call out not saving graphics settings in the cloud. I ran into a couple games where I had to change options any time I switched from my PC to deck.

- Comment on Trying to evaluate AI model generation 1 month ago:
We need to solve a lot of problems like energy and resource usage to make it sustainable at a small scale and don’t feed the bubble and by extension the repercussions it will have on the world economy.
Just a few tiny little details to work out, to do “some very specific and well outlined tasks”. And while those things are being worked on, which may or may not be solvable, real and actual damage is being done now. But hey, who cares right?
- Comment on Trying to evaluate AI model generation 1 month ago:
You’re getting downvoted because AI is causing so much damage and ruining so many things. People still using AI are just adding to the problem and continuing to legitimize the bullshit.
If you truly want to learn aesthetics, read some books, take some classes, get some practice. Learn a new skill!

I’m happy to hear about Linux support, but from recent news about GOG I expect the client to be full of vibe coded nonsense.

When I was growing up I was told capitalism was great because we all get a high standard of living and had lots of inexpensive stuff to buy. Look at how poor Russians were during the Soviet era!
Now I’m being told that to sustain capitalism I need to live like a Soviet era Russian.

There are lots if people new to Lemmy and not everyone is aware of what really happens on the large platforms. Maintaining awareness is a good thing I think. Especially for new users it can affirm a choice to leave those platforms.

- Comment on Arch-based distro EndeavourOS gets a new Ganymede release 3 months ago:
EndeavourOS is great! It’s pure Arch with a few of their utilities included (which are easy to remove). I like that it provides a good set of defaults for a fully configured desktop system, so there’s no fiddling with installing every thing else you need after the initial OS installation.
- Comment on Epic CEO wants Valve and Steam to stop requiring devs to disclose generative AI usage 4 months ago:
That’s why I used the word “decent” instead of something like “good”.
Valve (along with Itch.io) also removed several LGBTQ2S+ games recently due to some complaints from payment processors, and I think that’s terrible. (your first link is not working at the moment, so maybe that was mentioned there?) GoG, on the other hand, released some of those removed games for free.
Valve is absolutely not perfect and they have done other bad things before, but when you’re competing with Epic, or EA Origin, or whatever Ubisoft calls their shit, it’s easy to see why they dominate the market. GoG is probably the only other company that also behaves “decently”, has a good product, and is in a similar space with Steam.
- Comment on Epic CEO wants Valve and Steam to stop requiring devs to disclose generative AI usage 4 months ago:
Another example that Steam doesn’t maintain dominance via market abuse, but rather by being decent in a market where the competition is downright awful.

- Comment on 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Needs to Imagine More for Its Female Characters 6 months ago:
And that’s with some, frankly, terrible acting in the first season of B5!
Definitely check out The Orville. It took me a few episodes to realize that it is a comedy first, but after that the serious episodes felt strange to me 😅
- Comment on 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Needs to Imagine More for Its Female Characters 6 months ago:
I’ve just started season two and this is kind of how I feel too. It’s not a bad show, but a lot of it is just mediocre. The characters are especially bad since they all feel like bizarre caricatures of Star Trek memes and the attempt at comedy often feels out of place.
The Orville, for all it’s silliness, had much better writing and characters that actually felt genuine.
The show is entertaining enough for me to keep watching though.

I’ll often use tedious tasks as a testing ground for new technologies as well. Tedium leads to innovation.

- Comment on Leaks again hint at Valve doing a proper Steam Machine Console 7 months ago:
For a lot of people, building a PC is magic. It’s just not something they’re familiar with, even if we consider it easy. I have smart friends who buy the worst off the shelf laptops, but it does what they need and they choose to spend their time on other things. Meanwhile, I check my local PC part shop for sales almost daily. 😄
If this provides a good out of box experience, I can see the appeal.
Also, it’s nice that you could buy a pre-built one or build your own if you want.

I’m going to guess they’re companies without software expertise in house, so nobody to review the code anyway.
If companies continue hiring people like this, it’s only a matter of time before the exploits roll out.
