Last day it the month, and the aftereffects will be felt on Mayday.

Yeah, kinda figured that, but the writer of the article… not so much, apparently.

Actually found good detail on Ars.
- Comment on Self-hosted fully working ST:TNG voice computer interface 1 week ago:
I’d be tempted to have it switch voices for different purposes. Robert Picardo’s EMH for medicinal queries, Kate Mulgrew for “what should I do” queries, alternate between James Doohan & LeVar Burton for technical stuff, etc. Might throw in some Lower Decks characters for fun, too.

I’m assuming that — much like truck drivers — there are legal limitations on how long a pilot can be on duty at the controls without sleep, which is why I was asking. As such I’m surprised there were only two pilots as I was under the impression there should always be two on duty at all times, and I’d have thought there would be at least one other pair swapping out during such a long flight. I admit I know virtually nothing about aviation regulations, but surely I’m not that far off in my expectations, am I?

How many flight crews were there?

I’d make it my profile icon if I were in there under this name, but it was my prior account which I lost when my instance recently closed down. So if I do it on this account, I’ll probably have to deal with “stolen valor” accusations.
*sigh* I was this close to greatness…

Meant if them are selfish assholes hoping to screw the rest of us over further. They’ve apparently never understood the moral of the “…there was nobody left to speak for me” bit.

- Comment on Valve open source the Steam Machine e-ink screen so you can make your own 5 weeks ago:
May as well open it - I doubt the SM will be doing massive sales at current prices, so even fewer would have sprung for this add-on. Opening it up is at least good PR/marketing.

- Comment on Revolting! 5 weeks ago:
Such enlightened attitudes among the populace at large requires a strong educational system to instill such thinking, which is probably part of the reason educational system funding has long been a target for the power-hungry.
- Comment on Revolting! 5 weeks ago:
On that last bit, I’m not seeing much difference. It’s not like if the repressed won that they’d all just suddenly let bygones be bygones & let those currently at the top just live out their lives peacefully (as if those types of people even could.)
The more things change, the more they stay the same, & all that.

I wonder how such a small number of names can be compared to all the names commonly in use in the country since its inception & throughout its run (i.e. only names that were common throughout the entirety of the past 250 years).

Frankly, I think I’d rather “were” - our system is rotten to the core, and I fear the only way to actually fix it is to start over with lessons learned in mind.
