- Comment on Volunteers. Yeah. Totally 1 day ago:
There’s an idiom that is used in ex-Soviet countries - “voluntary-compulsory”. Usually meaning things that people were forced to do that they weren’t legally required to do, like “subbotniks” (Saturday workdays) - clean streets, build stuff, clear rubble. It was voluntary on paper, but should one refuse - that’s a risk of social penalties, including risk to one’s career.

On the other hand, wartime leader being retired after war makes perfect sense (Winston would later return back for another term, but anyway).

Austrian duchy among its early rulers had Henry I, who was a son of Henry II. 🌚

We don’t even have to go 150 years back if we take a look at North and South Korea’s. Photos of soldiers from both countries standing side by side show staggering difference.

My guess would be hotend not feeling so good. Those white spots look like result of temperature changes.
If you can read hotend thermistor data somehow (OctoPrint, for example, shows a chart for that) and see lots of sudden ±2-5°C changes - that’d be it.

But they kept African slave trade until last century, why are there almost no black people in Arabia?
Oh.
- Comment on Catholic irony 5 weeks ago:
Back in medieval times, there were once few sects like Hutterites practicing what Jesus had preached, most notably separation of church and state, and also communal living.
One can easily guess what happened to some of them. 🌚

Yeah, but even if we go back to antiquity, reputable historians always acknowledge that sources on military history of that time were often full of shit with things like “yeah, there were 100k of us versus millions of Persians”.
And in political history there’s a lot of discrediting one’s predecessors, and retroactively paitining some personalities as crazies.
And part of modern historian’s job is to point out all the possible conflicts of interest in historical sources, so that we can know that we’re presented specific perspective of events or if it was written hundreds of years after events.

Yeah… but as the example of Kingdom of Georgia had shown - when they finally get to you in your mountain fortress - things are going to get really ugly really fast.

Funny how that was really how much of that was actually portrayed at the time.
Basically Machiavellian villains - sending someone to exploit the frontiers of Africa or “New World”, someone you know will not be doing things ethically, then convicting them for doing your own bidding. Whilst at the diplomatic table everyone maintains a facade of “we’re bringing jobs and higher quality of life for the natives, and teaching them the ways of God” while talking about Belgian Congo.

It’s actually quite easy to instigate an argument between tankies themselves too.
While I still used Reddit, I used to sometimes visit “communism101” sub or whatever and would answer some historical questions regarding Soviet Union, as living in post-soviet country I, if course, hear a lot from people who experienced it themselves. And I once mentioned that being unemployed was illegal in USSR. Discussion immediately turned into a shitstorm where tankies started calling each other “lazy bourgeois dogs” and “libshits”. 🗿

Stalin when you ask him why most of known communist revolutionaries from 1910’s and early 1920’s have 1939 as date of death in their Wikipedia article: 🤭.

That TV box is connected to the same Wi-Fi, and those just do that, nothing to be alarmed about, just mild annoyance.
Should give you settings menu entry after long tap on that push notification, where you can block it from appearing.
