I’m a bit late to the party but the stack I run is what Beeper uses. If you don’t mind handing them your IMs it’s exactly what they host and it works great (used it for a year before I decided to host my own things).

Oooh i’ll keep an eye on that. I reinstall Mirror’s Edge regularly, always loved it.

Matrix bridges. I run my own matrix instance with bridges to the services I use (google messages, whatsapp, irc, discord; there are other bridges available) so I can use one client for all.

Plus the default server and client are bloated and buggy
I’m not sure why people keep repeating this. I’ve been running both for 6 months without issues (see recent comment about DB maintenance). Maybe it was true before and isn’t true anymore.

Lol, surreal.

I don’t buy it… Certainly the kitchens in the white house have a whole security process to guarantee the procurement chain wasn’t tainted.

And, importantly, run the db on postgre, not sqlite, and implement the regular db maintenance steps explained in the wiki. I’ve been running mine like that in a small VM for about 6 months, i join large communities, run whatsapp, gmessages and discord bridges, and my DB is 400MB.

Uh? It’s actually a pretty formal language, with very precise grammatical rules people will spend your life correcting you about.
- Comment on 3 weeks ago:
They do call it “open source” in the docs though.
- Comment on 3 weeks ago:
Yeah I noticed it in the favicon too. Bad aftertaste.
- Comment on 3 weeks ago:
I know, and yet the code is open source. Confusing.

- Comment on Meta’s own research found parental supervision doesn’t really help curb teens’ compulsive social media use 3 weeks ago:
It’s teaching them what’s good to consume or not and how tell the difference by themselves that’s important. Teching them how to think basically. So parenting. Not watching them, not spying on them asking “why that site”. Parental control filters only work for so long, but they help. My experience using parental control however to limit screen time only taught our kid to absolutely maximize whatever screentime she had. So kind of addicted. But, pretty good at telling what’s toxic.

Sure but it’s not the point of the article, it’s about guardrails not working, as the AI is clearly spouting ideas unapproved in China.

Yeah for that I like Canonical’s way with netplan. Write a very short and simple yaml, “netplan apply”, 'k tx bye.

CEOs have also bought into AI almost to a person, and are using it to replace workers, results be damned. AI can’t do the things they believe it can, but to them, if they can fake satisfying a need with AI for $5, that is preferable to actually satisfying a need with a real employee for $10.
Yep that’s exactly how me and my entire team were laid off. “Automatization”.

Same for men’s shaving ads really. They’re all about an already perfectly shaven guy just scooping soap out of his face with a razor.
