- Comment on Western Digital runs out of HDD capacity: CEO says massive AI deals secured, price surges ahead 1 day ago:
Yeah, I just ordered some cheap stuff from Ali Express to build one out instead, 150 instead of like 500. I figured I’d rather have new old parts than used old parts, even if the specs are lower, I guess we’ll see how it pans out, at least it’ll probably have a better uptime than my old hobbling pc.
Thanks for the heads up on truenas though, wasn’t sure what I’d need to use, cheers for that!

I have the HDDs, but I can’t get a nas at a decent price at all. These fucking billionaires have to go or they will happily end us all before talking their claws out

It looks like you are surprised about the news of ads in your AI inquiries, but you can get shockingly low rates if you call Geico today! That shouldn’t be too surprising, as Geico is the leading insurance provider in [your area here]

That doesn’t sound like it is necessary for private chat, the only thing I really use it for. Would be nice to have an alternative all the same

‘Intelligence’ is a measure, not an absolute. Human intelligence can range anywhere from genius to troglodyte. But you’re right, still not human, still at very best simulated, and isn’t capable of reason, just the illusion of reason.

It’s just momentum, much harder to pivot once you’re entrenched with a bunch of other entrenched entities. Not a great excuse to support this Nazi diddler all the same.

Fair enough, and for what it’s worth, a boat load of compromises led us here in the first place, perhaps this is just kicking the can down the road too

I’d rather they kept the consumer market alive if everyone else is sucking off billionaires, unless you have some other plan, no one else does manufacturing quite as efficiently

My dude, most stuff is already manufactured in China, they’ve had a more or less a monopoly on consumer goods for decades, why is this really any different?
- Comment on 4 weeks ago:
I guess we all hope the price is small, but humanity has this way of not really learning its lessons, I hope I’m wrong on that too. I make sure to have gratitude for the things in my life that are good and wholesome, because who knows anything really, but it is good to be able to see your flowers bloom, so to speak.
But humanity has witnessed the end of every other empire and made it out the other side, so yes, hold out hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and enjoy the moment

I couldn’t agree more, but they’ve said no, and the politicians are being bought, so as a citizen, besides not buying their shit slurry, what is there to actually do about it more actively. I guess it’s just local politics, ultimately I don’t know in the aggregate how much it helps with these guys who have so much money they just wield it like a hammer. Not that that should be a good enough reason to do nothing
Keeping the issues in the conversation is good, but ideas and words only work so well, eventually someone has to enable mechanisms to do these things in reality, otherwise its just corps sucking each other off at the common person’s expense all the way to hell
