Half of all Trek episodes go up in smoke if the given ship had security cameras. Trek sometimes ages poorly when modern technology unexpectedly leaps ahead of the show, but in this case they were already behind the times. i guess you could argue that the federation embraces radical privacy or something? but it's a stretch, and doubly so on a ship with a large contingent of crewmembers who are defectors or never joined up to begin with. maybe they're just too tired from immaculately refitting the ship every week

i think it's an awkward way of expressing the sentiment that growing up is finding out the adults have no idea what they're doing. Mount is thinking "oh shit, the monologue, how can I ever do half as good as Shatner" and meanwhile Shatner didn't- and still doesn't- even know what it is

+1 for Bandcamp. they often run a "bandcamp friday" event where they waive their cut of all music sold that day, so almost everything (payment processors still take a cut) goes to the artist. there are also self-hosted alternatives to bandcamp like faircamp
