Crunchyroll started as low quality speedsubs, their strategy was being the first to release the latest episodes of shows airing at the time. Alongside speedsubs you had quality subbers which would release a couple days later with higher quality translations and using better RAWs. Crunchyroll quickly became the dominant speedsubs, always being first, so eventually you had CR subs too. These would improve CRs shoddy subtitles a bit, maybe add character colors and formatting and such, and then release shortly after.
Yakitate Japan only started streaming on Crunchyroll after having been officially licensed by Nozomi Entertainment. They almost certainly used the official subs rather than doing their own.

Having both Haibane Renmei and Texhnolyze but not Lain sure is odd haha.

Most anime is made in China.

‘Voting with your wallet’ is an odd way of putting it though.
I’m no expert on manga publishing by any means, but you still have to get noticed by the industry before getting published. The difference I suspect has more to do with artists being able to present an individual, cohesive vision, and ‘trialling’ manga being relatively cheap and low-risk for the publisher when it’s just a way to pad out a magazine which will sell regardless. Meaning there’s more original, creative ideas presented to the audience, but it’s not really a consumer issue until it consequently reaches a certain level of popularity.
You’re probably right on the faithful adaptation though, the manga basically gives the producers a storyboard to work off of. Hollywood suffers from the exact opposite issue to being ideological I think, they’re often produced by committee without a cohesive vision. A show’s good because of a clear, purposeful narrative, which hinges on the author’s messaging.

Best series last year, and possibly surpassing Sweet Blue Flowers as my favourite series of all time (as evidenced by my pfp), was There Is No Love Wishing Upon a Star. It’s a slow build to a spectacular dramatic climax with heartrending romance. A must read for anyone interested in mature yuri and drama :) And the art is gorgeous <3
Sakura, Saku finished printing in English last year and is, imo, a near perfect shoujo. Adorable, saccharine, beautiful and very deliberate.
Love Bullet was a surprisingly good and heartfelt first volume which works as a standalone. The premise is silly and there’s plenty of action but it’s rather endearing.

- Comment on [Discussion] What anime did you think at the start would be special to you (and be proven right)? 5 weeks ago:
Late response, but I thought about this question for a (long) while…
And I eventually settled on Suzumiya Haruhi.
Whilst not really one of my favourite anime any longer, it really appealed to a teenager profoundly bored with modernity. - Comment on Orange is my favorite 1 month ago:
Pairing Apocalypse Now with Top Gun and Predator is heinous.

Hehe, yeah my comfyometer clearly favors a bit more drama than most, but I get restless when there’s no development at all.

- Comment on [Discussion] What is your most 'comfy' anime? 3 months ago:
Definitely Chihayafuru. Not CGDCT and perhaps too much drama for most to consider comfortable, but to me that’s the most comfy place to be 🥰
And I must mention Manabi Straight! ofc, most underrated CGDCT of all time and also very comfy. - Comment on [Discussion] What non-movie anime do you consider to be the "most-complete" in terms of execution from start to finish? 3 months ago:
Just any 1-season anime original or complete adaptation, really. Lain, Tatami Galaxy, Katanagatari, Now and Then Here and There, Madoka, to name a few favourites.
It’s a shame if being ‘complete’ is being considered a rarity nowadays, I don’t think there’s really anything special about it. I don’t usually enjoy series that go on endlessly. - Comment on Relatable. 3 months ago:
Very much this. Now people go ‘it’s pretty good’ and it’s the worst shit I’ve ever seen.
