- Comment on GrapheneOS calls on privacy focused app developers to boycott European Unified Attestation 2 weeks ago:
I can’t shake the feeling that this isn’t really about the UA but the private feud of Graphene OS developers
Its like their comms guy is a spoiled 12 year old who’s pissed they didn’t get invited to the party. I say that as a big fan and daily user of GOS.
I get that’s common in tech, but if you’re going to neg on your competitors at least offer a solid alternative. Like attestation or not it satisfies a need a lot of orgs and developers have. Its not going away any time soon.

- Comment on Do you stick to the same linux distro across your devices? 2 weeks ago:
Nah. Debian for servers, Fedora for desktops and Arch for funtimes.
- Comment on Alternatives to unmanic & tdarr? 3 weeks ago:
That looks pretty neat. Not what I’m looking for but would be handy for other projects.

Dick. I’ve spent two days tearing my hair out trying to get restic to connect to hetzner. Hate it when folk spend a couple of hours tinkering with Plex and they’re all like ‘yeah this is a breeze you’re clearly a moron’.

Isn’t Motorola basically Chinese?
- Comment on 7 reasons I chose Btrfs over ZFS for my home NAS 2 months ago:
I think people have forgotten what the point of a NAS is. Its for storage. You put files on it and don’t ask it to do much else. You want it to be quick so it can serve files to other machines. ZFS is a solid choice for this use-case.
It might not be built-in to the kernel, but if it wasn’t for the openZFS licence it probably would have been. And its not like its hard to install it.
- Comment on QWERTY Phones Are Really Trying to Make a Comeback This Year 2 months ago:
I don’t think they are - if they were we’d be seeing models from the likes of Samsung or Huawei.
Its good clickbait for gizmodo though.

Right, thats it. Switch it all off. Burn it down. Right now.
- Comment on Docker security 3 months ago:
In an enterprise setting, you shouldn’t trust the server firewall. You lock that down with your network equipment.
I thought someone might say this, but it doesn’t seem very zero-trust?
Ideally you’d still want the host to be as secure as humanly possible?

- Comment on Meta starts kicking Australian children off Instagram and Facebook 3 months ago:
Usually I’m against this sort of thing but hear me out:
- it’ll at least keep SOME kids off social media
- "kids will just use VPNs" >> some will, but maybe govs will finally realise how stupid trying to block things are and actually start regulating social media properly
- "kids will just join other social medias" >> not great but maybe that’ll help break meta’s dominance?
- Comment on Making setups resilient to outages 4 months ago:
Next thing after that is redundant servers with failover and all that
I’ve been thinking about this one. I have everything on one Proxmox machine, and I could potentially have a second machine offsite for backups. If I did that I could go whole hog and just mirror my whole machine offsite for failover. Some kind of Proxmox cluster but with geographic separation.
