Orgies.

Right, thats it. Switch it all off. Burn it down. Right now.
- Comment on Docker security 1 week ago:
In an enterprise setting, you shouldn’t trust the server firewall. You lock that down with your network equipment.
I thought someone might say this, but it doesn’t seem very zero-trust?
Ideally you’d still want the host to be as secure as humanly possible?

- Comment on Meta starts kicking Australian children off Instagram and Facebook 2 weeks ago:
Usually I’m against this sort of thing but hear me out:
- it’ll at least keep SOME kids off social media
- "kids will just use VPNs" >> some will, but maybe govs will finally realise how stupid trying to block things are and actually start regulating social media properly
- "kids will just join other social medias" >> not great but maybe that’ll help break meta’s dominance?
- Comment on Making setups resilient to outages 3 weeks ago:
Next thing after that is redundant servers with failover and all that
I’ve been thinking about this one. I have everything on one Proxmox machine, and I could potentially have a second machine offsite for backups. If I did that I could go whole hog and just mirror my whole machine offsite for failover. Some kind of Proxmox cluster but with geographic separation.

- Comment on TikTok To Be Sold To Trump’s Right Wing Billionaire Buddies And Converted Into A Propaganda Mill 2 months ago:
A lot more than America
I agree, but this is just tiktok in America. Everywhere else, users remain on the global version.
‘America is fucked’ because this comes alongside everything else - control of the media, control of all branches of government, building the paramilitary Gestapo (ICE) etc. The whole western world is at risk but America is further down the road.

I would make a joke if this wasn’t deeply, deeply worrying.
This is how the Nazis solidify support in genZ and genAlpha.
America is fucked.
- Comment on Japanese Power Plant Turns Saltwater Into Electricity 3 months ago:
Its miles better than traditional desalination - requiring so much energy that burning fossil fuels is unavoidable. And brine is chucked back in the ocean. Basically an environmental catastrophe.
If you think of it on the scale of one community - providing potable water, dealing with treated wastewater AND getting a surplus of energy while treating the brine it is actually pretty clever.
If it makes you feel better you could probably slap some solar panels on those flat roofs too.

Yep. Politicians creating tech policy on the fly without consulting people who actually know what they are talking about.
- Comment on Tool to move watched files from on Plex lib to another 4 months ago:
Good idea. Definately easier but getting a list of watched files from the API might be more efficient.

Thanks I’ll take a look! If nothing else they might give me some inspiration

The speed difference is noticeable but there are a few quirks in my networking that I have to live with.
- Comment on Tool to move watched files from on Plex lib to another 4 months ago:
Speed - the SSD is nice and quick but anything on the HDD buffers. Its not a bad suggestion though, I might try it out.

- Comment on Two VPNs? 4 months ago:
Yeah this is the plan eventually. I’m already paying for two VPNs so I can’t justify a third until one of those subscriptions are up 🤣
- Comment on Two VPNs? 4 months ago:
Omg. That is absolutely what I need!! Thank you so much!!
- Comment on Two VPNs? 4 months ago:
wireguard on the host
Ahh. Of course. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that.
Should I consider deploying a reverse proxy? I hear that setting one up can be painful.
I notice you have multiple reverse-proxy services under ‘networks’ - do you set up a separate network for each service?

- Comment on What are your VPN recommendations for accessing self-hosted applications from the outside? 4 months ago:
Ahh. But what if you already used a VPN on the client for normal browsing etc - can you have two VPNs configured?
- Comment on What are your VPN recommendations for accessing self-hosted applications from the outside? 4 months ago:
Apologies for the dumb noob question, but if your iOS device is VPNed to your home server, how does it access the internet? Does it do this via the VPN to the home server?
