I’m gonna start with a movie related example. When there’s a superhero movie with a gay superhero (for example, Eternals) or an article where someone suggests the idea of a movie with a gay superhero (for example, Spiderman actors saying they’d like to see a gay Spiderman), fucking morons come out of the woodwork to complain.
But they won’t admit they just don’t like gay people. Instead they make the excuse that they just want to see the hero fight bad guys and don’t want to see their personal life. You just want to see mindless action and you think you have good taste? I want to see who the hero is as a person, who they love, what they care about. I think one of the reasons Spiderman is so popular is the focus on his struggle to balance being a hero with his personal life. I’d buy the excuse if not for the fact that superhero movies almost always show the hero’s personal life and romances. You don’t want the character being gay to be their whole personality or “shoved down your throat”? As if the Tobey Maguire Spiderman movies don’t shove his heterosexuality down our throats. Stop fucking lying and saying that having the hero’s love life in the movie is your problem, you just don’t like gay people.
Now for another example. Transphobes lying about trying to protect women. In fairness, I can believe that there are some people out there who have legitimately been persuaded by the talking points and really do think they’re protecting women. These are the followers, not the leaders. The people making these talking points are dishonest fuckers. They don’t give a rat’s ass about women’s sports until they’re arguing against transgender women playing them. And, when their concerns are addressed and it is explained to them that the transgender women competing actually don’t have a significant advantage, they don’t give a fuck. They can’t get past this weird notion that “common sense” says they have a big advantage, even though transgender women clearly aren’t dominating in sports like we would expect them to if they had such an advantage.
On to the bathroom nonsense. Transgender people have been using the bathrooms that they were comfortable in for decades, it only recently suddenly became a problem because politicians made it a problem. And these lying liars who lie insist they’re just standing up for women’s rights, when in reality they’re making it so no woman can go to the bathroom in peace. I tried to explain to some moron on Facebook that cis women who are mistaken for trans women are being affected too. I thought if they didn’t care about trans women, maybe they’d at least care about cis women being endangered by this bathroom hysteria. That’s what these people claim to care about. They just laughed at me. I could understand them not knowing that cis women are being harassed when mistaken for trans, but to just laugh dismissively when told about it? Is it that they don’t care about cis women either, or they don’t care about cis women who look trans? Has their transphobia gone so far as to go all the way around the circle and to deciding that some women assigned female at birth aren’t actually women after all?
