Looks wonderful to me!
- Comment on 'A Black Hole of Energy Use': Meta's Massive AI Data Center Is Stressing Out a Louisiana Community 1 week ago:
Data center owners should work as aggressively as possible to build solar and wind capabilities. It would be best for all parties involved. They’d get cheaper energy and it would benefit everyone by not polluting as much.
Even if they cannot power all of their energy needs with renewables they could build some every year.
- Comment on Usually the word "alternative" should be replaced with the word "bullshit". Ex: alternative facts, alternative medicine 2 weeks ago:
That’s a good point about alternative rock. I changed the title from usually to sometimes, maybe usually was too much.
I’ve never thought about the word alternative being synonymous with progressive, I tend of think of as meaning against the grain or against the mainstream but in practice sometimes it just means bullshit like in the title. For example RT calls themselves “alternative media” but they’re really just propaganda slop.

Sadly that’s going to change. Musk is going to push an update that I suspect will turn Grok into a far-right disinformation parrot or become closer to that. See lemm.ee/post/67429541 and lemm.ee/post/67216433

I wasn’t aware of this before. No wonder Musk felt comfortable stepping down as CEO, he just appointed a like-minded person.

That’s excellent! Hopefully there will be more and more people who don’t know anyone who uses Twitter.

100%! I’m sure you’re not using it but if you have friends/family still on there urge them to quit using Twitter.

- Comment on Google is intentionally throttling YouTube videos, slowing down users with ad blockers 2 weeks ago:
If the people you subscribe to are not ones who monetization is important you may want to consider reaching out to them and asking if they’d consider cross posting to PeerTube or another YouTube alternative. They may appreciate not putting all their eggs in one basket and reaching new potential fans.

I hope they crush SpaceX one day.
- Comment on UK police working with controversial tech giant Palantir on real-time surveillance network 2 weeks ago:
Why pay money to a company who wants to destroy you? No government should give a dime to Peter Thiel’s Palantir. Thiel is an evil sociopath who may have murdered his boyfriend. He also wants to basically abolish government. A government giving money to Palantir is like a snake eating its own tail.

There are companies which offer training and support to FOSS. Companies could also pay those companies.
- Comment on public services of an entire german state switches from Microsoft to open source (Libreoffice, Linux, Nextcloud, Thunderbird) 4 weeks ago:
I sometimes wonder what if everyone who spends money on licensing fees instead takes the same amount of money and puts it into FOSS. Imagine what we could achieve? Likely the money would be used more efficiently because they could donate it to non-profit companies which don’t need to pay tax.

His political contributions are really on brand. He funded election deniers in 2022.
Also I’ve heard they have a bad reputation when it comes to government contracts, very expensive poor quality software ripping off our taxpayers. I think they ought to be blacklisted or at-least require extra review due to their reputation.
- Comment on Google is Using AI to Censor Independent Websites 5 weeks ago:
But Google’s guidance was also telling us that recovery was possible if we just “removed” our “unhelpful” on-page content:
This is very chilling because it means websites will delete content. If the internet archive didn’t grab it in time it means knowledge is gone forever. An algorithm is not going to always be accurate in determining what is helpful.
- Comment on X (formerly Twitter) has been experiencing international outages for a second time in a week. 1 month ago:
If for some reason you or anyone you know is still using Twitter now is the time to take advantage of the outage and urge people to leave Twitter permanently. Tell your friends about alternatives to Twitter such as Bluesky and Mastodon.
