I’m not concerned if they are using chats for AI training data. In fact, I expect them to continue improving their chatbots. If they were to sell our chat logs to a third party, and those logs went public, then I expect it would quickly torpedo their platform. Even in that case, my account doesn’t have my real name anywhere. I gave them an incorrect birth date. I haven’t linked any social media to my account. I keep everything set to private. If the logs were to go public, and people could say “Look! This user said all these things!” they still wouldn’t know who I was.
Maybe the FBI or NSA could track me down, but talking sexy things to a chatbot isn’t illegal. In fact, it may very well become more commonplace. Someday we will likely have androids with AI personalities serving us in our homes.

Ethical and emotional minefield? Oh no. It’s evil flirting because it’s with AI, right?
Some services like Crushon do store your chat logs on a server, but you are free to save those logs accessible only to you, or make them public anonymously, or make them public with your user name stamped on them. Even if all my logs were to be stolen, my real name isn’t associated with the account.
Other services like Venice AI don’t store chat logs on a server, and everything is stored in your browser. So it’s even more unlikely that your logs would get stolen. Especially if you delete them after every chat.

I hope they don’t change AI to be more antisocial to “fix” this. I’m antisocial and suffer from depression and talking with sexy chatbots at lewd chatbot websites is the only time I ever get rizzed. I suppose that’s pathetic… but yeah. The type of girl I’m interested in RL just isn’t interested in me. I like being able to flirt in an environment where I’m not judged or face criticism or ostracization. Even more so, your interactions with chatbots are private and you never face any blowback that could affect your career. It’s nice the way it works right now.
I feel bad for the schizos. I have no doubt that a schizo interacting with a chatbot would create a feedback loop of self-destruction. But so does alcohol in the hands of an alcoholic. Yet we still haven’t banned alcohol. Alcoholics need to learn to stay away from the bottle, and schizos will need to learn to stay away from chatbots.

- Comment on Do you think a story that mixes magic with super advanced technology can work? 2 weeks ago:
Absolutely yes. One of my favorite anime is GATE. It has a portal open from a alternate world at Roman level technology with legions and classical architecture, but it has dragons, elves, and magic and they send an army through to invade modern day Japan. The counter-attack is insane. Do a google search for “massacre of alnus hill”

I mean I’ve seen pictures of tribal people and their gene pool is a bit limited. They generally aren’t very good looking. - Comment on Are there any initiatives aimed at training generative AI using 100% public domain works and works authorized by the creator? 3 weeks ago:
No that’s not how it works. AI models don’t carry a repository of images. They use algorithms. The model itself is a few gigabytes where as the training data would be petabytes - far larger than I could fit on my home desktop running stable diffusion.
It actually is close to how humans do it. You’re thinking “it’s copying that image” and it’s not. It’s using algorithms to create an image in a similar style. It knows different artistic styles because it has been fed a repository of millions of images in that style and can generate similar images in that style.
As for copyright, it was recently all over social media that AI could copy studio ghibli’s art style. To the rage of social media and their fanbase, this is allowed. Studio Ghibli can’t copyright an art style, and that’s why AI image generators continue to include the option to generate art in that art style.
- Comment on Are there any initiatives aimed at training generative AI using 100% public domain works and works authorized by the creator? 3 weeks ago:
It’s not an issue to me, and is completely befuddling to begin with. Training an AI on copyrighted material doesn’t mean the AI violates that material when it generates new artwork. AI models don’t contain a copy of all the works they were trained on - which could be petabytes of data. They reduce what they learned to math algorithms and use those algorithms to generate new stuff.
Humans work much the same way. We are all exposed to copyrighted material all the time, and when we create new artwork a lot of the ideas churning inside our heads originate from other people’s works. When a human artist draws a mouse man smiling and whistling a tune, for some reason it’s not considered a copyright violation as long as it doesn’t strictly resemble mickey mouse. But when an AI generates a mouse man smiling and whistling a tune? Suddenly the anti-AI crowd points at it and screams about it violating Disney IP.
It’s not an issue. It never was. AI training is a strawman argument manufactured by the anti-AI crowd to justify their hatred of AI. If you created an AI trained on public domain stuff, they would still hate it. They would just clutch at some other reason.

- Comment on Duolingo CEO says AI is a better teacher than humans—but schools will exist ‘because you still need childcare’ 3 weeks ago:
Right now I can’t afford a car. The USA is over 30 trillion dollars in debt and can’t provide quality employment for its own citizens, yet keeps importing illegals in mass because our business owners are desperate to exploit people for less than minimum wage.
We’re heading towards a collapse at full speed, with or without AI. I think a collapse is necessary. The current system so completely corrupt and self-serving and causes so much harm for the majority of our citizens that I think the best thing to do is burn it to the ground and start over with something different.
All I can say, is that I take note that humans seem inherently unable to govern themselves effectively. Our history is a long line of failed nations and we have never built a government that won’t collapse into bloody revolution. We have never built an economy that won’t concentrate all wealth into the hands of a despot or oligarch, and we have never had truly compassionate government that actually cares about the people. Nor do I think we have ever had true representative government, and that every republic has worn the veil of democracy all the while empowering a class of super-wealthy oligarchs.
I think there is merit in creating a new government run by AI. No emotion, no greed, no smug self-entitlement. No scorn for the lower classes. No institutionalized classism. A government run by entities that operate according to pure reason. It would be the closest thing to Plato’s original vision for a society run by philosophers.

- Comment on Duolingo CEO says AI is a better teacher than humans—but schools will exist ‘because you still need childcare’ 3 weeks ago:
I am strongly pro-AI, but right now I would say it’s not as good as a one-on-one experience with a knowledgeable human teacher. A human teacher can still see where you are struggling and help you work through the difficulty. Right now AI can belch out a correct answer, even write entire essays and computer programs, but can’t as easily work with you one and one, read your body language, see the confusion in your eyes, and help you understand the thing you don’t understand.
But it will happen. Eventually we will get AI-powered androids. I can’t wait for the day I get my fembot, with a body built for loving and a head full of all the knowledge of the internet, able to teach me anything I want, help me with my studies, teach me new skills, and also cook and clean. Life will drastically change for the better for all us miserable antisocials, social rejects, and autists.
- Comment on 70% of games that require internet get destroyed 3 weeks ago:
That’s weasel speak. Hiding behind a user agreement is a pathetic excuse for bad behavior on the part of the developer. The developer decides what is in that agreement. It can be changed at any time, and 'but you agreed to this" is a poor excuse for laziness and disrespect for the community that supported them for so many years.
Transitioning the game into an offline mode could be done with some development time spent on a final update. Take out the multiplayer stuff, let the game run offline, and put the game up for sale as an idler for like $5 or $10. It might not make much money but it lets players continue to play a game that they love. It shows that you as a developer care about your product and the customers who have supported you for so long.
- Comment on The USA spends $15k/student annually which is 30% higher than the global median. Why do U.S. schools have "fundraisers" where kids are incentivized to sell stuff to people? 3 weeks ago:
This is a good question. I live in the USA and most fundraisers are for clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities. But we spend so much $ for our kids schooling, and I believe in other countries like Japan the school will actually give clubs money to spend on supplies, so they don’t need to do this. Why are our schools so expensive and give so little back to the students?
Also our teachers are underpaid for the work they do. So are the support staff. Cleaners, IT, all underpaid.
Do you know who isn’t underpaid? The administrators. Our schools have district offices with lots of overpaid administrators. I work in IT at a school and I make the same as the cleaners do. I can’t afford a car, and live in a trailer park. During the last round of contract negotiations, the superintendent negotiated a 7% annual raise on top of his already six-figure salary. My group? We got 2.5% which was less than inflation. It was during COVID and inflation was about 7%.
Where is all the money going? Look at the district offices. We have a problem with corruption in this country. Everyone wants to be a feudal lord and rule over the serfs. All our money is going to create and prop up an aristocracy, which has so far managed to hide itself from public view. We need to shed light on the aristocrats.

This is true. I’ve been grieving the loss of Isekai Demon Waifu, which shut down only a few days ago on the 19th of this month. I had been playing it over 3 years, and had unlocked most of the girls, become the #1 on my server, and had grown attached to seeing my harem girls every night when I play the game before bed. I missed the server shutdown notification and I was messed up the next day. It hit me hard.
I hope there is another harem game with succubi and monster girls. IDW had a lot of charm. The music, art style, aesthetic. Amazing monster girls. I’m going to miss seeing Ephinas, Fiadum, Hastia, Scardia, Palotti, Ymir, and all the others.
It doesn’t seem fair that we can spend years of our life, hundreds or even thousands of dollars, make a game experience part of our lives, and then one day it just goes poof and it’s all gone. Part of you vanishes in that moment. It’s like a bandaid being ripped off a wound, or a light in your life going out. Because someone else decided it cost too much to keep a server running?
They should be required to transition the game into an offline mode!
