Sometimes it’s because the subject from Japanese folklore was humanoid, sometimes it’s a creative decision based on the nature of rhe curse. Mahito is the cursed manifestation of the human soul, and he’s juat a baby curse.

No, but them looking alike explains the vessel thing.

They fear feeding him too many fingers too quickly could give Sukana too much power.

I’m not very far in the show, but it’s an extremely common horror trope that you can’t destroy cursed objects
