Hi, I’m sbird! I like to make all sorts of things!
- Comment on Let's put an end to the discussion; what is the best way? 1 day ago:
always using a bag clip. Reusing the bag clip if it needs to be eaten soon (e.g. at a party) since it’s less of a fuss to remove it.
- Comment on Why is coal and fossil fuels still used? 1 day ago:
not saying it’s important, but if you tell a meat-lover to give up meat they will say no. Maybe it wasn’t the best analogy…
- Comment on Why is coal and fossil fuels still used? 2 days ago:
but it tastes so good…
- Comment on Why is coal and fossil fuels still used? 3 days ago:
Money mostly. It generates a lot of profit and it costs money to switch. In many of countries oil, gas, etc. are like a huge portion of their GDP. It’s like trying to get people to eat less meat. It would be better and more environmentally friendly, but everyone is too dependent on meat.
- Comment on LibreOffice: We still see people on the fediverse recommending OpenOffice, despite it having year-old unfixed security issues 1 week ago:
LibreOffice’s UI is fine on Linux, on Windows not so much. OnlyOffice is a good alternative for Windows
- Comment on Need help self-hosting Radicale! 2 weeks ago:
ok, I’ll do that soon
- Comment on Need help self-hosting Radicale! 2 weeks ago:
unfortunately could not fix my issue :(

ooh that seems really helpful, thanks :D
I’ll try that once I come home
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
I tried installing an ISO and it black screened. weird.

Okay, so CasaOS is easier to set up (but uses more resources and I won’t learn sysadmin stuff) whereas using something like Debian is a bit harder to set up (but uses less resources and learn more!).
Think I might try CasaOS on my 11th gen laptop and plain Debian on my 6th gen laptop and see which I prefer

OHHH that’s why I couldn’t find out how to install it. Got it.

Ah got it. I’ve installed debian since yunohost had issues installing for whatever reason. Weird.

Writing down different commands on a note seems like a good idea. Thanks!

What kind of issues?
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
TrueNAS scale seems like the perfect option, the only downside is that my old laptops don’t meet the hardware requirements
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
Cosmos does look quite good. TrueNAS can’t run on my old laptops so HexOS was never really an option
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
I ended up installing Debian since Yunohost can’t install and my old laptop doesn’t meet the hardware requirements of TrueNAS Scale

thanks for sharing your experience :D
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
ah okay, gotcha. So no CasaOS then. Lots of others suggest YUNOHost, is that fine?
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
Woah, there’s a lot. Nice that there’s plenty of options!
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
thanks! Maybe I could check out cockpit and portainer too…
- Comment on What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge? 2 weeks ago:
Thanks, that was really helpful :D
I’ll try CasaOS then, and later maybe I could move to Debian once I get better at the command line!

- Comment on Where do I go if I want to find someone to help me make an app game? 3 weeks ago:
I would encourage you to try to learn gaem development, it’s fun :D I’ve personally tried Unity and Godot and prefer the latter bc it’s oepn-source and I like the workflow but both are good.
Brackeys makes the best Unity tutorials and he’s starting to make some pretty good Godot ones too. My first games were pretty much following along the Brackeys tutorials and then trying to extend the game by adding more levels, gimmicks, etc. and learning a bunch of new things along the way. Some more Godot specific tutorials I like are GDQuest and HeartBeast.
Good luck on your game development journey! :D

interesting that keepassXC doesn’t need a browser extension. I might have to try it out, seems pretty cool.
