- Comment on Pride rainbows taken off police cars after court ruling 3 weeks ago:
Never mind the comments here on Lemmy, but you really need a hazmat suit to enter the comments on that article. Over 1400 of them, each somehow a different type of phobic.
- Comment on If you've given up on Civilization 7, Civ 6 is free with all DLC expansions for a limited time on Epic Games Store 3 weeks ago:
I’m 1500 hours away from hitting 10k in Civ 5. I think I’ll stick with that for a few years more until LEKMOD stops being updated, and then I’ll think about giving 6 a chance…

And yet cats kill billions of birds each year. Wild.
- Comment on Steam summer sale going on... This is my haul (from GOG) 4 weeks ago:
One of the few games based on the Quake 2 engine. Which is a shame, I quite liked the chunky feel of it.
- Comment on Steam summer sale going on... This is my haul (from GOG) 4 weeks ago:
I barely remember the story of SiN, but I do remember enjoying it when it came out. That whole “guy in the chair”/mission control shtick is probably why I hold this game in the same category as Deus Ex in my head, even though they’re very different.
- Comment on Commodore acquired for a ‘low seven figure’ price — new (acting) CEO comes from the retro community 5 weeks ago:
He did post this video a couple of days ago, but I had a hard time getting past the intro because I was cringing. Part 1 was great though.

- Comment on After shuttering Shadow of Mordor and MultiVersus studios, Warner Bros. Games confirm rearrangement into four bits 1 month ago:
It is bullshit indeed. Especially now with AI, seemingly it would be relatively easier to throw in some adversarial llm in a game to keep a game engaging nowadays.
And imagine if other games started patenting systems like that: “Fatrolling is a unique movement system only found in FromSoftware games”. Soon there wouldn’t be anyone making games except for those with patents. - Comment on After shuttering Shadow of Mordor and MultiVersus studios, Warner Bros. Games confirm rearrangement into four bits 1 month ago:
Btw. the patented Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor that everyone loved despite only having been used in that one game, won’t expire until 2036, and yeah, Warner Bros. gets to keep it.
- Comment on CRISPR used to remove extra chromosomes in Down syndrome and restore cell function 1 month ago:
This opens the door to so many possibilities. I’m just a dumb-dumb, but skimming through this: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7508700/ it seems that organ xenotransplantation might become a reality in the not too distant future.

Hmm… Maybe I should start storing my bottle caps in a safe.
- Comment on Death toll in S.Africa floods rises to 78 1 month ago:
78 dead and that number seems likely to rise. Out of a population of 63 million it could be a lot worse, but the story about a school van just swept away is still heartbreaking to hear about.
- Comment on Israel’s Iran threat is familiar, but it is unlikely to attack without US backing 1 month ago:
They did attack Iran, and the headlines I’ve read says it was without US support. But it’s a developing story.

You guys, I think Perifractic was in a Star Wars movie haha.
Looking forward to hearing more as this progresses.
I would’ve looked up whether Commodore Corp. had changed hands via KVK: www.kvk.nl/bestellen/#/83289348000049466550 but unfortunately it’s paywalled. - Comment on YouTube is expanding its ad-blocking powers — closes loopholes that allowed some users to bypass restrictions 1 month ago:
Eh, it only lasted for a few hours, then I updated the ublock origin filters and things were back to normal. In the meanwhile I just streamed youtube videos via a media player that had builtin yt-dlp (smplayer) support.
It’ll always be a game of cat and mouse. - Comment on Whale poop 🐋 💩 1 month ago:
It’s believed half of all produced oxygen is done by sea and whale poop is incredibly important for providing nutrients to the surface to help this process.
- Comment on OBS Studio 31.1.0 Beta 1 brings Multitrack Video to Linux 2 months ago:
I guess that’s pretty cool. What would be even cooler was client side control of the multitrack audio sources. Would be amazing if each viewer could control the volume of each audio source broadcast from the OBS streamer. Imagine being able to control the volume of the game shown or turn up the volume of the streamer, or turn down the volume of the music etc.
- Comment on Windows 11 Start Menu Revealed as Resource-Heavy React Native App, Sparks Performance Concerns 2 months ago:
Ok, so WinAero points out React Native is cross-platform, but surely that shouldn’t matter for the Windows start menu, right? Unless it’s some ARM compatibility thing, making it easier to port or something.
- Comment on Peak Fan Sub 2 months ago:
We also used to watch anime on smaller resolution CRT’s, so it was useful to have subtitles that stood out for that reason.
- Comment on Elfs 2 months ago:
It’s well known that elves aren’t known for having babies all the time and the fact that they have a long lifespan and age very slowly, isn’t it… Well when I think about it like that, if an elf takes an incredibly long time to mature out of nursing stage meaning they need milk for longer than human babies, maybe big booba makes sense, but for most of the rest of the time, flat makes sense.

It’s so sad we’re burning coal and oil to generate heat and electricity for dumb shit like this.
- Comment on Nexus Mods cross-platform app v0.11.1 brings full Cyberpunk 2077 support for Linux, SteamOS / Steam Deck 2 months ago:
The new Nexus Mods App runs quite nice on linux. I’ve only tested it with Bannerlord as that’s the only game I own out of the 4 ones being tested currently and unfortunately it doesn’t launch directly from the app, but it does correctly deploy the mods, so after one has added the mods, one can launch the game from a preferred launcher like steam or heroic games launcher and it works.

I didn’t much like W1 and W2. Especially W2 feels like it’s on rails. The story is pretty good though.

All 3 titles are getting review bombed on steam currently, apparently it’s a low-res blurry mess.

- Comment on ‘Massive’ increase in pensioner shoplifters in past year 2 months ago:
He added: “Retailers don’t tend to involve the police when they’re dealing with pensioners. Stores tend to want to handle it on their own.
“It’s not good publicity for a supermarket if it got out that a pensioner had been handed over to the police for shoplifting.”
Sounds like the numbers could be higher then, if it’s not getting reported.

- Comment on How my ultimate SimCity 2000 setup helped get Apple sued [15:26] | This Does Not Compute 2 months ago:
This video was recommended to me many hours ago, and I wanted to see some SimCity2000, but instead it’s a video primarily about Apple hardware problems. I’m sure this is interesting to Apple cultists, but I was thoroughly disappointed.
